Hi all. I am trying to avoid having to purchase a music license. I currently have one but is due for renewal. I have a friend who is in a band, he is also the song writter and copyright owner etc. the band have given me permission in writing to play their music in my salon. I think this is the only way of not paying prs or ppl. Can someone tell me if this is right please ?

If they're not registered with the license companies then yes, and when PRS and PPL phone you, all you have to do is supply them with the info about the music you play and they'll look it up on their database and you'll be fine.
