Just out of interest how many regular clients do you have as a mobile tech, how many appointments do you have a week on average for new sets/maintenance/manicures and what is your most popular 'menu' selection?

Haven't started yet so just trying to get a rough idea of what amount of work people have to give me a rough estimate of what i might be able to expect for myself.

Many thanks

is it a secret? lol :D

Hi Andrea

I see lots of people have read your thread but not responded - it's a hard question to answer! Kind of like, "how long is a piece of string". Everyone is different.

I'm currently on mat leave, but when I was working I was only part-time (trying to balance childcare and a work life!). I had about 10 acrylic clients (so service every 2-3 weeks), 5 or 6 waxing clients (service every 4-6 weeks), 2 weekly appointments for deluxe mani/pedi, plus an afternoon at a nursing home, plus "drop ins" (people who did not normally get their nails done, but needed service for a wedding, etc). I was busier than this before, but had a very hard time working past 8 months pregnant.

I know if I was working full time and did not have to schedule around my children, I could have a full book. But for the next few years, flexibility is key.

Being available late evenings and weekends is very important for mobile - people who use these services simply don't have time during the day (otherwise they'd just find a salon). I've always been very flexible with this, and as I've had good childcare options for evenings the past few years, I've been able to get away with visiting a client a 10pm for a set of acrylics if they've not been able to see me earlier due to work, etc. The latest I worked was 4pm - 2am (ladies "pamper" party... the more they drank, the more services they ordered!)

My most popular services? Facial waxing, acrylics, and deluxe pedicures. I did some Minx before I took time off, and am hoping that these will be really popular when I get back in the saddle again.

Good luck to you, and I hope you find the answers you're looking for!

Hi Andrea

I am in the same boat as you - just about to start out.
I am also thinking the same - but the main thing - I need clients in the first place!!

I think you really need to get salon experience first. I have been doing creative acrylic nails for 13 years firstly i was really lucky and worked in the best nail salon and had training with the best tutor for about 9 months. You get clients mobile by working in a good place with the best reputation (but on a basic wage) then friends and friends of friends start to ask you to do their nails for them after work (this is when you start to earn money) I did mobile for a while then had a table for a couple of days in a hairdressers then found that i had to get my own salon because i was so busy. 6 years later i sold it for a fab price . I have been mobile for 2 years again now and just do 2 days do about 15 clients per week but am starting in a small hairdressers again on wednesday as i miss my big wages . Good luck and try your best every time and you ll always make a wage
Every time i do a set of nails or a rebalance i do the very best i can

Thanks guys for your responses its all going to help me make my mind up about if/when/how i'm going to get into this. I've only done my foundation course with CND but i've had a full mobile box of tricks including mini favours etc for a few years now (prolly all out of date by now haha). Just after i trained i fell pregnant and threw myself into being housewife/first time mum. Now little one is older i was hoping to put my enthusiasm/equipment to some use part time to fit around pre-school/school hours. I'd like to do more training etc but i think my hubby go mad if i suggest spending more money on my so called 'fad' lol. Maybe i could find someone to take on a 30 yr old for work experience .... hehe

Thanks again

Andrea x
