New set of gel extensions after removing old set

Hi all, just a quick question. I'm doing my own nails tonight. I have filed off my old set of extensions. (hard gel) leaving a thin layer of gel on which needs to grow out. Still kind of new to all this. So this time I want white tips, again gel extensions. Will it be okay to put my new set on as normal even if the thin layer of gel is still on my natural nails? Might sound silly but i just want to make sure they will stay on. And also would gel polish apply ok if i had that? Any advice would help..
