I have had a client ask what she can do about her big toe nail. She damaged it and it fell off a few years ago. It has grow back about half way, she wants to be able to wear opened toed shoes without it looking odd. I said that she could put a false nail for toes on it or paint the skin to make it look normal.

Does anyone know of any super fixes that i may not be aware of?

Thanks

I have only about a quarter of a nail on each big toe, mine fell off in Barcelona, but that's another story! Anyway I just prep my little stumps as normal and then build acrylic over the nail and above where the rest of the nail should be. Then when it is almost set I press it down and shape the sides and edge. Finish off as normal and as long as she doesn't soak her feet in the bath for too long they last for ages.

There could be an issue with sensitivity but I haven't had any problems and once the nail is on you can do infills as usual with no more exposure than usual.

She will love you if you can sort this out for her! :green:

Am I right in thinking that the acrylic is applied to the skin above your own nail?
I have always put a tip on to the natural nail, (in the same way you do on hands) but you have to remember to cut tip before sticking as cutter won't go dowm far enough on toes.
If I am correct in my thinking ( at the beginning of thread) then I shall have to try this on my S-I-L as she has this problem.

Yes I don't use tips anyway so just place the bead above where the nail is and then a second bead over the nail and draw this over the first bead. It is hard to explain what I mean but basically you are just using the acrylic to make a nail using the existing bit of nail as a base. This is easy to do but you need to shape it properly as it is harder to put right by filing than on the finger.

As I said before it will be necessary to touch the dead skin on the toe where the nail should be but I have had no problems with this regarding overexposure as once the nail is in place this way it tends to stay put. :)

Do you ever use gel to make a toenail? :)

I haven't done this so don't know if it is possible. I don't use gel very much at all so am no expert. :)
