ive just started a course in all types of enhancements and have been doing it for the past 2 weeks. i just read alot of posts that people have written on here about overexposure and its got me really worried as our teacher hasnt really said anything about this to us.

i was wondering if anyone would recommend wearing gloves from the start to prevent overexposure happening at all or would you only do that when you've already become sensitive to the products?

would really appreciate any advice

thanks

The way to prevent overexposure is to make sure you don't touch soft tissue with any product designed for the nail plates, i.e. l+p or gel. You will only become sensitive to a product of you touch it.

So, never brush skin with monomer, don't lean your forearm on your wipe pad, don't touch the bristle of your brush with your fingers, only wipe the sticky layer off gel with a plastic-backed pad, clean dust off your table top, etc. and you'll be fine. IMO it's better to get into good working habits than to start off in gloves.

I started using acrylic gel yesterday and i realised today how much i had been touching it and my hand went onto my wiping pad a couple of times. i agree that it is better to start off without gloves but whilst im still getting used to doing it do you think its worth buying some just to make sure it doesnt happen and then when ive trained myself not to do it take them off.

ive just become really worried about it now and dont want to take any risks.

Tbh, that is completely up to you. Only you know how you are working.

Overexposure is just that - repeatedly exposing your skin to a chemical above safe working limits. It's unlikely to occur after a single exposure, but then everyone's skin is different. Being worried about it is a good thing because it will make you work safely and not expose your skin.

Why not speek to your tutor expresing your concerns, she might address the issue with the class.
Also ask her if she knows about this site and tell her that you heard about overexposure from here.

ye, i think i'll probably do that, because its prob worth everyone else learning about it too.

thank you
