hi,
I was wondering how other geeks did a patch test on potential clients prior to a party as you may never have the chance to meet them beforehand.
I have decided myself not to treat any client for a patch test type treatment if they haven't had a test, just as a matter of principle to protect both me and my client, but how do I get around this party problem please,
thanks

Hi

If the party is fairly local to you, drop a small (50ml) bottle of solution off at the house/venue. Don't fill the bottle, you need only put about 10ml in there. Include some cotton buds or balls and instructions for the hostess to ask everyone to dab their stomachs with some solution at least 24 hrs before the event.

Ask them to contact you if they have any reaction. If they react, don't tan them!

I really think you need to contact your insurance company and ask for guidance about this.

You have to be trained to apply spray tan and be covered by insurance, so, surely the patch test can only be done by the trained technician as well?

I may be wrong, but as far as I am aware, it is fine for the client to use a cotton bud, dip into solution and dab on their body. They will not be slathering themselves in it, just a dab.

Hi Jules, Yes I don't know for certain either:). I just can't help thinking that insurance companies will try to wriggly out of any claim if they can.

There are members from insurance companies here, maybe they could clear this up?

Thanks for replies, it would be good to know the insurance opinion too.

I'm also thinking that there must be a client responsibility issue too as even if client is tested by therapist, unless they come back to salon afetr 24 hrs surely we are relying on client telling us the truth about reactions etc. If the reaction was minor thay could say it was fine if they really wanted the tan and then come back and complain if there was a greater reaction on the body.
I usually test behind the ear as with tinting and i thought skin was more sensitive here so a good place to test
