Hi there,
Hope you can offer me some advice, I'm totally confused!

I'm currently employed p/t (very boring office job!) and I'm looking at setting up on my own doing gel polish and extensions, whilst studying to be a Foot Care Practitioner.
A friend of mine has advised that I can register as self employed whilst employed to enable me to claim back any costs incurred whilst I get set up. Does anyone know if this is possible? I find the whole thing daunting and have no idea where to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you x

You don’t ‘claim back’ cash spent on training and setting up, as such. What she probably means is that you can offset some of these expenses against the amount of tax you are required to pay.

You will have a personal tax allowance for the tax year but don’t forget that the money you earn from your p/t paid employment will already be using up some or all of your tax allowance, depending on how much you earn.
