This has been on and off for 2-3 yrs now. I have tried pain killers, natural remedies etc.. It is all temporary. Seen my GP and each time got a new antibiotic, finally got in a seen an ENT specialist, he told me it all looks good and that I need to get my wisdom teeth out. I did, 3 months ago, once again pain free for a couple of month. The pain came back with a vengeance :( about 2-3 weeks ago, so bad I can't live my day to day life uninterrupted, I may end up at the ER if the pain meds and ear oil doesnt kick in soon.
Anyone experience this?

So sorry to hear you're in pain. I'm just going to bed, and although I know it's not a solution, I find that 'cupping' my ear with a warmed hand really helps. I just rub my hands together quite briskly and cup one firmly over my ear!!! It might help you through til morning x

Sorry, I've never had bad ear ache but didn't want to read and run. I do suffer with blocked ears from excess wax thought (sorry, gross I know!) and I've found that steam helps clear them better than any of the oils or sprays you can get from the doctor or pharmacy. I boil a kettle, fill a mug and tilt my head over the mug so the steam goes into my ear and loosens the wax and this helps the discomfort I get from it. I know this probably isn't much help if you are in a lot of pain but I do find the heat from the steam quite soothing. Hope you feel better soon xx

Hmm... I outta try my facial steamer aimed right at my ear? Cant hurt more than it already does... Thanks for sugesstions :)

I used to get right sided pain which I thought was earache. It was migraine. Hope you get a solution soon x

Oh goodness, this sounds like a something that happened to me. I was convinced it was an ear infection. My gp gave me all kinds of rubbish that didn't work.
I went into hospital to have my baby and was in more pain from my ear than the labour. Fortunately an ent came to see me and saw it was an infection under the skin of the ear canal so it couldn't escape. My ears were bleeding and all sorts. There were some drops he gave me that worked so quickly.

Definitely ask them if it's an infection in the canal. Docs kept missing mine for a year! It's not always easy to spot xx

Are you a swimmer? I've suffered from swimmers ear before and it's the most pain I've ever been in. It's caused by water laying in your ear canal. Antibiotics won't help. You need to dry it out with alcohol. Just drop a couple drops of rubbing alcohol in each ear for a couple of days. I'm not a swimmer, but if I get a small amount if water in my ears, it always leads to pain. The alcohol always works! I hope you find a remedy!

Hi my husband suffered with this about a year ago he was climbing the walls and as above said it was an infection but hard to detect because where it was

Be careful as your eardrum can perforate, you'll know if this happens,

Earache is horrendous and if you feel you need something stronger for pain call out of hours dr til you get an app with ent

Big hugs xx

Ohhh ha ha.... when you mentioned alcohol I thought you meant just get lashed. .that would remove the pain for a while. Look up glue ear, that comes and goes and sounds similar to what you are experiencing. Hope you get it sorted soon.

I have literally doped myself up with 3 different pain killers, the sharp pain has dulled now but it is still there :( Does the alcohol burn?

No, the alcohol doesn't burn.

Hi, bless you it's awful when you can't get any respite from
the pain, just a shot in the dark but have you asked whether it could be trigeminal neuralgia, it can cause intense pain like this in different parts if the head, face, ear etc
My mum suffered with this on and off for about two years and ended up an A&E several times and on enough painkillers to lay out a horse , in the end after seeing countless specialists she was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, thing was after taking all the medication for all that time she ended up having a tooth out what she had previously had root canal work on and since then has had no problems, basically trying to say the pain in your ear could be manifesting from somewhere other than your ear , it's a frustrating position to be in when no painkillers touch the pain , hope you get to the bottom of it soon , big hug to you xx

Weeks later and I am dealing with the pain as best as I can :(
Prior to the pain I haven't had any major dental work done.. after months of antibiotics and different treatments nothing helped, got in to an ENT specialist and he told me to remove my wisdom teeth, the very next week I did. It brought about 2 months of lovely pain free ear and then it came back with a vengeance. Back to square one

I just wanted to say about the Tringeminal Neuralgia, this is a condition I suffer with and can say it's more painful than childbirth.

The pain can be different with each individual but mine starts in my ear, really bad ear ache and then sharp stabbing pains down my jaw and ear....and pain killers do nothing at all.

I would go back to your gp and talk about the pain as often it can be misdiagnosed for a long time.

I hope you get it sorted xxxx

My mobile phone could be giving me all my head pains and ear ache, I'm sure, because when I'm not on the phone a lot, I don't get head aches.:irked:

I can absolutely relate!! It is awful and I can't do many normal activities because I fear the pain will get aggravated:( Heck I refuse to let anyone hug me on my right side anymore!
