I've literally just started spray tanning so don't have much experience. My practices have been going really well and I've a lady who has asked me to spray her for a night out. She is middle aged with fairly dry skin and a few dry patches on her face. I would hate to leave dark patches on her face and wonder if you have any tips other than exfoliating well and using an oil free moisturiser?

Also any tips on getting the perfect spray hands, occasionally they are coming out a bit patchy around the fingers.

Many thanks for your help

For dry patches defo exfoliate & exfoliating gloves are REALLY good for the body. You could use barrier cream on the dry patches but if there is alot on the face, id think about leaving that out. oil free moisturiser is good for after the tan also. But if advise people to have a good scrub, put moisturiser on and obvs wash it off before tan.
the weather isnt helping people who suffer from dry skin! hth XxX:)

For hands they only need a light mist, make sure your not too close and they are in a claw like position- or however you were trained to have them x

Tanning sloutions will 'grab' at any dry pathes making them look darker.
I always get my clients to apply a thin layer of moisturiser to elbows, knees, backs of the ankles, over the toes and in between fingers. If she has really dry pathes on her face then i would get her to apply some over the dry patches.
Yes moisturiser acts as a slight barrier but as the skin is dry anyway, it should even the tan out.

This is really a difficult one and you have to find the balance between pre tan moisturising, and when to do it as well as exfoliation.

Get your customer to exfoliate regularly once the tan has started to fade...focusing on particularly dry(dead skin build up areas) and then have a good moisturising session 24hrs before the new spray tan session...this will allow enough time for the moisturiser to bleed into the skin and not create a barrier resulting in white patches.

On the day of the spray tan inspect the skin...if there are any areas where there is still a build up of dead dry skin get the sluffwipes out and simply exfoliate the dry skin areas....if it is severe a light application of a mild moisturiser will help...avoid a barrier cream as this is simply to harsh and could result again with white patches.

Once spray tanned...make sure you drum home the need for the client to moisturise the skin every day...preferably with a moisturiser with a DHA content.

On the hands issue this is im afraid simply a trial and error thing and a balance between pulling the gun away either to early or to late...keep practicing on this area and soon you will master it.

HTH and good luck

For a very simple and complete procedure go for these. Wash Up, Exfoliate, Mositurize leave it for some time and then have that TAN. or maybe a tanning solution should be fine.

Many thanks for your help. Have discussed with client and decided to leave the face as exfoliation does not even work with these patches so I think it's a bit risky. Will keep practising on the hands :)
