Hi

I am in the process of opening my own beauty therapy and nail salon and whilst I am qualified and will be working full time in the business any advise of generally expected hourly rates and salary packages for staff would be welcome.

I expect to employ both NVQ levels 2 and 3 staff for various therapies to include various massage styles and appreciate experience will play a part in determining the figure paid.

Salon will be West London area.

Any advise welcome and appreciated

think you need to consider what prices you will be charging for your treatments, how good the therapist is will he/she bring a client following with them, what wages they are already on the list is endless really. it can sometimes help if your unsure to start them on just above min wage with a salary review within 3 month of starting also offer a commision system thats fair to both parties. but if the therapist is really experienced i doubt she would accept min wage. so advertise wage neg and find out what shes earning in job and take it from there

thanks for your reply.

I am keen to employ both experienced and newly qualified staff, preferably with all round skills for all of the services offere from manicure, pedicure, waxing, threading, massage as well as body treatments and was proposing an hourly rate but commision could be an option to boost salary's.

This leads me to ask what % of treatment cost would be expected as an industry average to pay on this basis.

Again any advice most welcome

i would probably give the girls a realistic target say for example
full time therapist needs to hit £2000.00 in treatment takings per month if this target is reached she will get 5% then anything over target she will get 10% and maybe set a target for retail which will work out she ruffly needs to sell £40 a day and she will get 10% of that and maybe 10% of courses sold.
but when setting treatment targets you need to determine what prices you are going to be charging for treatments x
