Hi all,

I have decided to enrol on the CND Beginners Shellac course in the new year as I am exactly that - a beginner (but lots of knowledge from several yrs in the industry just not as a nail tech).

I have chosen this course as I want to begin with Shellac and Vinylux and hopefully progress to further things, including Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel and sculpting gel. But am I limiting myself to what u can progress on to? Would I be better doing a manicure nvq and then conversion courses? Just not sure if I do the Shellac course and then want to learn sculpting with Brisa light sculpting gel for bitten nails if I have to do a course in sculpting and then CND's Brisa light course or whether I can do the Brisa Light course after the Shellac course and it teaches you everything you need to know?

Thanks

If it's CND products you want to use then CND training is the way to go, as a beginner, and all the way through. Here in the UK, CND provides education at every level for every system and technique, so there is no need to train elsewhere unless you choose to use any other brands in the future and want to take their training. You are already going ahead with CND Shellac Beginners, it's great, you're going to love it :)
From what you say above I'd recommend your next step to be 'CND Gel Beginners' which is designed for those who are complete beginners to Nail Enhancements. You will learn both CND Brisa Gel and Brisa Lite Sculpting Systems. Then, to further specialise your techniques for nail biters you could take the one day 'Makeover Magic' class or alternatively book a few hours one to one with your CND Education Ambassador, bring along a nail bitten model and your EA can teach you all her tips and tricks for Enhancing these challenging nails.

Being able to transform a nail biter is such an important skill. I used to have 'NAIL BITERS WELCOME' printed on the front of my salon treatment menus, business cards, etc, as I found that nail biters were turned away from so many nail pros in my area. We discovered that is you can cure a nail biter and give them the beautiful nails they always thought impossible for them, they will sing your praises at every opportunity and be the best word of mouth advert you could ever dream of.

My training has all been CND so far. I have an excellent trainer in Cheltenham and the level of education has been superb. My intention is to train as far as I can in CND products as I think they're the best.

Personally I'd recommend it.

Thank you both. My worry was that I am doing the wrong 'order' or the least effective order money wise. Like if you could do gel for beginners and then shellac conversion I would be doing it the wrong way?

I think it's probably better to do shellac beginners rather than mani then shellac conversion, I think you get some kit included in the price too. (I did mani with nail harmony then shellac conv. And it was great but I did manicure certificate before cnd did beginners course, I would have done it all in one if they did it at the time) I've just done sculpting gel course too, I really enjoyed it but you only learn to extend and repair one nail not produce a full set so I'd ask s2 which course would be best for this. Hope this has helped and not totally confused you! But I'd say shellac beginners is a good place to start :)

That's really helpful. I think I will start with Shellac. I just wanted to make sure if I wanted to move forward I wasn't going to have to go backwards and that this is the most cost effective way with CND. I think at some point I will want to do gel sculpting and manicure and pedicure but that's another £1000 on top of the beginners course, which I just can't justify yet.
