VAT threshold 2012

Hi geekies!
I have a VAT related question. So for nearly all the 2011 tax year, the VAT threshold was £73,000. My Self Assessment accounts are done from the end of April 2011 - Start of May 2012 (nearly there!). The VAT threshold for 2012 is £77,000 starting from April 1st. Does this mean that I must stick to the 2011 threshold or the take on the new 2012 threshold?
