Hi guys,

I am new to this forum so I'm not sure if I have posted this in the right place but I just wanted to know if anyone has done this course and what were your experiences? Did the course have a lot of practicals in it or was it like a one week placement?
I have enrolled to do this part time but I'm not sure what to expect as all the things posted on beauty therapy have been on nvq. I'm really excited about the course and can't wait so I want to know what your experiences were. Please reply I'm SO excited!! :D

Hello? Anyone? Lol :cry::cry:

Hello and welcome :)

I did this course last year. It was two days a week over a year and i really enjoyed it. I had a brilliant tutor which i am good friends with now and the group was small but really friendly. It was theory one day and practical the other to begin with but spent both days doing practicals near the end. I covered alot of treatments, waxing, lash and brow tint, facials, make up,mani, pedi, nailart, individual lashes. It was hard work but worth it. I would recommend it. Hth xx

Thanks for your reply! :D

Sounds really good :D I feel more excited now!

The course I'm doing is a fast track intensive one so will be three days per week.
I'm a bit worried about what the students in my class will be like and if I will fit in  but hopefully things will be fine! :D

Oh yeah another thing I wanted to know was did you get told to wear day make up as a requirement?

Yes day make up,short clean un polished natural nails, hair tied back and tunic and trousers with closed toed shoes,my uniform was black but check with yr college as everywhere is different :)

I know how you feel about fitting in,i felt the same and was really nervous but once u break the ice and talk to the other students, yll probably find they feel just the same, everyone's in the same boat and yr all there to learn :D

Yll b just fine and yll enjoy it,gd luck hun xx

I'm on this course at the moment, it's 2 evenings plus a Saturday morning for a year. We have to have short nails, hair tied back, flat shoes, full uniform and no garlic (still don't know whether that was a joke or not!!!) I'm only in a class of 7 so it's quite nice as its like having 1-2-1 mentoring. Only thing is if people fall out its really really noticeable xxx

I know this course is run at our local college but I did the part-time (2 nights a week) over a year instead due to work commitments.

I'm 40 so was a little worried about not fitting in but the class have been lovely - I'm about 10 years older than most of them. I've loved every minute (well except eyelashes). We are just finishing our waxing unit and will finish on make-up. Can't believe the time has gone so fast.

Be prepared for theory though - I love it but most of my class hate it. You sit 2 anatomy papers (all computer based) and we have sat a test for all the units covered. You also do knowledge questions which are 'assignments'.

I will be progressing onto level 3 in September. You will have a blast - hope you really enjoy it x

Two more replies :D

Thank you all for your replies, the course sounds great (except for the tests lol).

That really reassured me thank you, as I was a bit worried about going back to college as well and not sure if I would fit in due to that.

Did you have to wear day make up at your college as well? I do want to wear it definitely but my make up skills r not very good at the moment I was hoping To learn how to apply it properly when I start the course and then wear it

We have a dress code that seems to not apply to most of the students! However, if dress code is not adhered to during assessments, we fail.

I wear our specific college uniform - they will tell you all about this at the interview - black trousers, black and purple tunic and black pumps. Hair must be in a bun, short nails (no polish), no jewelery (although we can wear a wedding band) and natural make-up. Don't worry about any of this - the first couple of lessons were introductory so you will be advised. I simply wear tinted foundation, a little bronzer, blusher, mascara and lip balm - no skill needed at all (well blending the foundation!)

You must be very excited and nervous. I remember it well - now the college salon is like my second home - feel so happy in there!

The tests are not bad at all so don't panic and you will be given revision. Only advice I can give is to stay on top of everything as the weeks pass very quickly. SO many girls in our class are behind on tests, assignments and also practical assessments. A little pulling back at times on the old social life has to happen. I've got my final anatomy paper on Tuesday - am I going out this weekend - NO!

 thank you so much for all this info! You're right I am very very very excited and nervous I can't wait. I'm always looking for more info about the course and what it will be like
Yes that's true about the social life but I don't mind :D as long as I enjoy it and it keeps me busy :D good luck on your anatomy exam :)

Also, thanks for the info on make up and uniform :). By the way, when you was doing the make up module, did they teach you how to apply it and different techniques? Or was it just really basic? X

I will let you know in a couple of weeks! It's our last unit so I haven't started it yet.

I learnt alot about make up application in my course, how to apply and how not to,day, night and special occasion make up,correction techniques and different styles for different skin tones and ages :) x

Hey! Im in the middle of this course now, loving it but it is hard work!

We are finishing up on facials which to be honest has been really hard and a little boring theory-wise with all the science but we are ao looking forward to waxing and mani & pedi next!

We have finished make up and luckily out tutor is actually a make up artist with her own make up brush company so we got a lot of great tips, however she said VCTC are more concerned about your hygiene when it comes to doing the make up rather than how it looks, like no double dipping etc. but Im going on to do a full make up artistry course after this as it interested me so much!

What the other poster said about keeping on top of things is so important, because you can concentrate then fully on your next module rather than still trying to catch up with your last module!

Its good to see others doing this course! Good luck you will love it!

Hi,

Oh yeah I have seen some facials being done on YouTube and the massaging part looks really hard and complicated, I don't know how I'm going to remember all the moves

Wow lucky you that your tutor is a make up artist I want to get taught by a make up artist lol. Hopefully if I enjoy the make up aspect of the course I will go onto doing a make up artistry course too :D

Yes that's true about concentrating on each module at a time, especially because the course I'm doing is an intensive fast track one so I will have to work extra hard. I'm kind of worried about that as well hope I can keep on top of things.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience :)

Can I just add how valuable I've found practising. Got myself a bed off ebay for £70 and thought I would just practise on friends - its not only started my business (which will be in full swing once qualified) but I've passed all my assessments first time and I know that's because I perfected all my techniques.

Once you've massaged 5-10 people the facial routine is a breeze. I now adapted to skin types and feel so confident doing this!
