Hiya,

Im new to salon geek but could really do with some advice!! (by the way i love the site it is excellent). I am looking to do a nail enhancement course, i have always wanted to do one but there has never been the right time but now it is!...anyway i have looked into doing a CND course but at the moment the course price is a little more than i can afford...now i have also found a local academy, i live in Rayleigh Essex and there is a Nail & Beauty Training Academy in Wickford Essex, the cost of the course is more within my price range, the prospectus looks good, from what i can gather they use creative products and it has all the things i would like to do with the opportunity to gain an NVQ...my only problem is i don't know if it is any good or not (sorry to be so blunt but..) i don't want to be throwing money away...so do i wait for about another year and do a CND course or do i bite the bullet and go for the local one (they might be great)!!! I would really appreciate some advice from anyone...also if anyone knows about the nail & beauty academy and can offer some help that would be great. It really means a lot to me to get it right, and i am itching to get started now!!!

Thank you and sorry to waffle on a bit!

If you don't end up with a CND certificate you won't be able to buy CND L+P or gel. I'd phone Sweet Squared first before you part with any money to check if it is recognised. xx

I will do thankyou x

there are a number of company that offer great trainning, members on the site will tell u of there experiences, as it is the trainner with the brand who is as important as the brand its self. Most reputable companies will offer trainning that will far exceed nvq standards, nvq is only a minimum standard . With toddays market most products can be brought from a number of places, all legal! Product is of little use if your skill is not established. Good idea to soursee this first.

I believe that if the training's worth doing then it's worth travelling for :D

With Christmas coming can you ask for money when family ask you what you'd like for a gift? That way you can add it to your savings pot and it makes affording training easier... a lot of techs do that, myself included.

I travel an hour and a half for my training... plus, recently for The Event I flew from Valencia to Manchester on my own because I knew it would be worthwhile and be good for my business.
I would recommend you booking your training with Ketan (CND London), he's a fabulous educator :green:

He's fabulous every way! I met Ketan for the first time at the Event and he's got such a wonderful personality! xx

That's great thank you for your advice, i will try and dig deeper and maybe hold out till the end of next year, it's hard when you want to get started on something, waiting is a nightmare!! I really want to make a good go at this so...maybe good things do come to those who wait :|

In the mean time do you recommend stocking up on some good nail books to get myself prepared? If so could anyone advise me on what ones to buy?

Thanks again Michelle xxx

Thanks Ang, these will for sure be going on my christmas list!!

To be honest im doing fibreglass and silk at my local college that i started in sep,now i wish i had travelled to do the cnd course now as theres things iv been tort before are not being mentioned.good luck hun and go for the right choice your glade you did in the end. Picking the best course is important think how good your be in the end .well worth it .went on a bit sorry lol xxxxx

Hi Chell,

I was sort of in the same position as you but I decided to go for it and booked on the Creative L&P course. It's been great, well worth the money. I would highly recommend attending their courses.

Apart from that I'd do as the other messages suggest, contact Sweet Squared and check the college is definiately CND recognised. If it is maybe you could do their course and then do a few 1:1's with a CND educator to go over anything you're unsure of.

I will make sure i look into this further, i think it's gonna have to be the CND from all your lovely advice, i will keep you posted! and thanks again for your words of encouragement xxx

I go back to Newcastle next week for my 4th day with CND and I have to say go for it too Chell...with the Creative training under your belt it's got to be onwards and upwards. From the training to the products and not forgetting the S2 customer service - it's like one big happy family and well worth every penny

Cheers hun, mind made up im doing the CND!!

Thank you xxx

Just saw this thread and wanted to chime in that Justine Crick is a CND Ambassador in Essex if thats any closer. Hope this helps and best of luck on your choice. You've picked a very cool future for yourself :D

Thank you...really excited and CAN NOT wait to get started. I will contact CND tomorrow and find out where in Essex they are based.
