Your views on Innovative cutting

I am currently undertaking a Foundation Degree in Hairdressing and as part of this i am required to find out the industries perspective on innovative cutting.
I would appreciate your view of what defines "Innovative Cutting", where you get your inspiration and what new tecniques your trying out.
