Hello , I am a beauty person not a hair person...

A couple of weeks ago I wanted my hair colour changed from a mixture of blondes to the hair colour of 'lauren pope' I showed my hairdresser the picture and she said she would do a few highlights of my normal blonde at my root and around the sides like she normally does but would then do an all over honey blonde tint (no bleach involved, bleach is never involved)

she did this, looked ok... few days after i text her as my roots are orange, so at this stage orange roots and a blondey hair colour. she came back and said that as there was a lot of warmth in my hair she would now put an ash tint on it, so she did this, she went and I could still see orange roots but me being me didnt say anything!

A week later (now) I have had 4 of my friends tell me my root are and some of my hair has an orange tinge and my roots are still ginger and the blonde is very fair, fairer than I have ever been and I wanted to be a darker blonde? I have text her again and am waiting for a reply. what do you suggest I do in terms of
- to correct
- or what colour to go next (bearing in mind i wanted to stay a blonde but just go a bit darker)

Ive added some pictures. one of my hair half wet ( the first time it was done, roots orange) the second two (of my hair now (excuse the horrendous spots please) the other picture is of the result I wanted to achieve.

I would just ask he to tone it all down because Lauren popes hair has a darker base colour so I would ask her to do a mix of honey highlights with a semi in between. My suggestions would be randomly scattered diagonal weaves so there isn't a set line through parting of..... (I use wella) 9/7 8/38 10/38 all with pastel tonner. And then a colour touch inbetween of 8/38+7/1 too cool some warmth left from the previous colour

Sorry that you've had a problem with your hair. The only thing we can say to NON HAIRDRESSERS is to seek help from a professional in a salon/mobile.

We cannot see and feel the condition of your hair and we most definitely should not be giving you self-colouring advice. I'm sorry if you think this is harsh, and I appreciate it's horrible having "bad hair"

If the person who's done this can't help you, you should seek advice form a colour correction specialist.

Do not try to correct it yourself.

We should not be giving self-colouring advice to consumers, no matter how helpful we think we're being.

^^^ Poster above^^^ could you please read the rules of the forum - and edit your post to remove colouring information?

Thank you very much.

I had my hair done by a qualified hairdresser and I would NEVER do my own hair.
Im asking advice on what should be done about it, is this a problem?

I don't think that's the problem.
I think a hair pro telling you specific pro colour to use is the problem...

Agree with KayaPapaya on this.

The second post shouldn't be giving out colour mixes on a pro forum to a non hairdresser.

Also, as a hairdresser, I wouldn't appreciate my client telling me what mixes to use.
Especially, as I don't use Wella!

I thought Id get this reaction, a typical forum reaction, I just want to ask what I should expect my 'Professional hairdresser' to do to fix the problem she has made. Due to not knowing hair I never thought putting a tint on would cause this so I am intrigued and also confused on what step to make next, hence why i asked on the hair geek forum. And no I am not going to dictate what my hairdresser should use.

Of course it's not a problem. :)

My point was the fact you've been given exact colours, which lets face it, anyone with a trade card (and even not, thanks to ebay)can pick up and give it a go themselves.

I hope you get your hair sorted, and no offence intended.

OK , And so do I , never had this problem before

Hi georgie, the consumer board is now accesssible on the app (a recent change) you'd of been better off asking there , trouble is this is the pro-pro board so they speak pro-pro, I dont think you even wanted a formular right? Just what to say to your hairdresser, if you dont think you got your answer im sure the mods will move this to consumer queries for you :)

I looked for some more pictures and found this one closer-up:

Looks like they just shifted her base one level, then a heavy balayage toned to that golden-beige tone.

To the OP: I would ask your hairdresser to keep lots of blonde (she might put some of the hair in foil with conditioner) and tone down the rest to a darker blonde, especially at the regrowth area. The colour you have right now will look nice as highlights, but as an all-over colour it makes the roots look too bright.

It's amazing how the proportion of a certain colour is in the hair, can change how it looks.
For example golden colour as highlight = honey, golden colour all over = brassy!

I cant help but think that the stylist hasnt done anything wrong. In my eyes it looks like she has done as you asked and taken you warmer but you, being unused to warmth or seeing a full head colour have automatically equated "warm" with orange.
Im not saying you are in the wrong at all, its a normal response and one that I have sometimes had clients come back to me about.
In this situation I would advise my client to allow me to take her half a shade darker then she desired and to use a demi. Using a permanent will encourage more warm tones to lift through. HOWEVER, I am not your stylist, I dont know your natural base level, the porosity of your hair, what the stylist used etc so whilst I could second guess a sia richesse with purple/blue tones on a level 6 I certainly wouldn't recommend you marched in to your appointment demanding your stylist did this as she mqy say "yes but I know your hair and if I do that it may go purple" or worse still, so as you ask and leave you plum as a..well...plum

As someone has already said, this should be in consumer therefore I shall move it there.

On reading the opening post I never thought she was going to colour her own hair, but was asking for advice on how to describe to her own stylist what she wanted her to do.

Maybe some advice was too technical, but thankfully Adamlea87 put it in laymans terms so that the OP can get back to her stylist on how to get what she wants.

We shouldn't jump to conclusions and we should try to make sure our answers relate to the experience and status of the person asking the question.

I was writing this info so she could tell the hairdresser exactly what she wanted clearly the had crossed wires if it was such a problem admin would have removed it so dont be so rude if you have an issue mail me!!!!!

And by mail me i am not being aggressive I just wasnt aware of the limits to what we tell other professionals to pass on to other professionals in no way did I think she would colour own hair nor know how to

So, if you had a client come in telling you that you need to use x,y & z mix on her hair, because she's taken advice from some random person on the internet, you'd just do as she asked?

Or would you prefer to undertake a thorough consultation and do the job properly?

Its rather like going to the dr having googled your symptoms and telling him exactly whats wrong and exactly how they should treat you. Who needs medical school when you have the internet?:p:confused::p

I'm not sure asking you to read the rules of the forum is rude, is it? After all you should've read them before joining up, but hey-ho. I think I have in the past PM'd you, but that appears to have fallen upon deaf ears. So I thought a more direct approach would help.

In answer to your question - unless they are a hairdresser (and by that I mean ONLY hairdressers - not even extensionists with no hairdressing qualifications) you do not give any technical colouring information to any other professional.

As I mentioned any other beauty pro, and consumer can purchase items you mention by name on here and try to colour it themselves.

:) Hope that clarifies the situation.

You haven't mailed me because if you had I would tell you all to get off your high horse :) this was in the hair bit an I simply recommended something and no I wouldn't take offence if they came up with an idea and then I done my proper consultation and came up with and idea :) and I understand why this industry is called the cattiest. You all came on with a negative standoffish attitude.

:) you've only annoyed yourself not me
