hi girlies just wondering if anyone is in the same boat!?
Ive been open over 6 years and I know you cant be busy 100% of the time and I totally expect quieter months but days with only 1 client is heart breaking!! Anyone feel my pain? Advice please

Hay iv had my salon for 18 months and iv had a few of them days and it is heart breaking but u just have to keep going do u do promotions do u have a online booking system try wahanda that really helped me out at first I no they take 30% but u can set it as a first time only deal and if u do a gd job when they come back they pay full price then u just have to keep them x

Is it just at the moment? As were a bit quieter at the moment and when I look through the books from years past it's been the same, people seem to be holding off until end of October I think. I really do think it's the time of year
X

I'm exactly the same I worry all the time it's very hard.
Hopefully it should pick up I've also just signed up to wahanda so fingers crossed but I really feel your pain no customer but bills to pay xx

What are you doing to attract new clients? Are you retaining your existing ones? What hours are you open? How and where are you advertising?

The length of time you have been open is no indicator of how busy you are. Everything we do in the early days to entice customers into our salon has to be done again and again and again.

Have you been busy? Are you stacked out some of the time?

It can be easy to be complacent and when you're busy to forget marketing strategies. Use quiet times to work on your business.

Good luck x

Ive already said this numerous times. The beauty industry is that saturated its overflowing. Just because a salon exists doesnt mean it will be busy. There are only a certain number of clients to go round at any one time. You have to cut your cloth accordingly.

While this is true to a degree things are always shifting and changing. Salons come and go. Therapists get pregnant/move/jack it in, and those clients need somewhere to go. New people move to an area. Some salons are crap but clients don't know where else to go and so on!

You have said on here you have three salons, so why not share some marketing tips. What worked for you in the early days etc. To just come and say the market is saturated isn't much help to the op who isn't a new salon but has been open 6 years!

If you remember ive had staff issues this past year and they have taken alot of good regulars with them so this has had an impact for sure. Im very business focused and do my upmost to gain &retain but its hard to gain to retain. I hate having to constantly feel the need to do offers. But truthfully offers don't really intice on the most part for my customers I prefer added value. I think one of the problems is the industry is totally saturated but its fonding my ninche again in this industry! Its sure tough no matter how long you've been doing it

I think finding your niche is definitely the way forward and adding value rather than discounts is a great idea. I'm heading towards 20 years in this business and I still work hard to gain new clients.

I never have offers where I reduce prices - I'd much rather add something to enhance a treatment.

As Vic says...the market is constantly changing so there are new clients out there and it's finding a way to make sure you're extra special so you get those floating clients to come to you and stay with you.

The best of luck and let us know how things improve x

Beautygeek, have you tried a relaunch? With all the stress you've had with staffing problems ETC, I'm kinda getting the feeling you've lost your Mo-Jo along the way. If your feeling stressed your clients will notice it too.

Is it possible for a salon Re vamp? It will refresh you too You don't have to spend a fortune, a lick of paint, maybe a new colour feature wall then shove it out there, invite people in for an open day to show it all off and get that "Buzz" back.

i just revamped my buisness, decor, brochures & full new website about 6 months ago. you are right in one way my mojo has been knocked but at the same time i've kept going until now when i realise the impact ...out of busy season!i see how few regulars remain and the negative impact staff can have on a business! its a toughie!

Aww bless ya heart! :-(
Do any local organisations hold charity pamper evenings? We've got one coming up In the local village hall, lots of small local businesses offering their taster treatments, goodies, demos ETC? Or organise a charity pamper evening yourself?

Is there anything like that you can get in on and take your staff with you? Because instead of them getting mardy they can be working with you on this not against you x

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties 😔 now, on the face of it...this may seem like a weird suggestion but bear with me...
Would you consider having a feng shui report done on your business? I place I used to work at had this done and it made such an impact it was amazing! A person qualified to do such a report will advise you how you can improve the flow of energy within your establishment. There may be something causing negativity that you are not aware of that it causing your business negative events... Staff issues, client issues etc.
You may think this is all a bit airy fairy and a load of nonsense but I have seen it work first hand so please at least consider it. I know it will mean spending money within a business that is already struggling but it could work for you. Just another point of view.
A quick tip to get you started... Get an amethyst crystal and place it on top of where you keep your client record cards...amethyst incourages things to increase, so on top of your client filing cabinet is fab but on top of your invoices is not 😉
FYI... I am not a feng shui specialist in any way, I just believe it works.

Good luck x

There is a lot to be said for Feng Shui. We have done our salon in the simplest way - auspicious corners, positive energy flow. We don't have many mirrors as they can cause strong energies and so on.

We use a crystal on our credit card receipts, we have a money tree that was a gift from a client with an interest and when a friend opened her salon, I sent her an amethyst with strict instructions of where to place is - and where to avoid. Her salon is going from strength to strength. I don't think it was solely the crystal!!!

I think very basic feng shui is quite simple. If you don't understand what you are doing, then don't do it, but things like keeping your front door clear and making sure your room isn't cluttered and the energy can flow through is simple enough.

We have a lot of beams in our salon as it's an old barn. Beams are meant to be heavy and oppressive, but can be counteracted with chimes to break the weight of the beam.

Mumbo jumbo maybe, but our salon turnover has nearly doubled in the first half of this year compared to last!

I've heard about this before, like if your loo faces a certain money direction point (north, South etc) to keep loo lid down so cash flow won't flush away, and a clear airy gang way into the room from the door...

Didn't know about the crystals tho, so thank you for thst both of you x

You should be a business mentor vicky! Your fab! Xx

Where's best to find out more info on the feng shui? I constantly go around closing cuboards and drawers after people it's meant to stop your cash flowing away? Bit silly maybe but I always do it, I'm going to check which way my toilet faces now!

i have to be honest and say i am not into crystal/energies at all and with my beliefs i wouldn't consider it. with all being said and done i think it will take more than crystals ( not being rude) to turn this around. for any of you who have had a long standing member leave will know what i am talking about. my business is in a fairly small town so it will take time and alot of work again!!! being is business is def def underrated and after years i am still shocked by it! i have to say when things are going well they were well but boy when they fall do they fall!
