7/81 Illumina to tone 9/10 base

Client is base 9 with some bleach hi lights, she wants an ashy root stretch close to her natural (in between a 7/8 and ashy)
I've used 7/81 before and think I remember it being quite dark, I'm thinking of using half 8/ half 7/81 with pastel on dry hair to tone down, does this sound like it could work? She only wants it to be ashy

Go for it. I've done it before. You'll find it will blend nicely if you do it on wet hair.
