Hi I have been offered a room in a hairdressing salon to start on a self employed basis from June when i finish my level 2 Beauty Qualification.
The salon owner is asking for £90 per week to include phone calls, water, electric and tea/coffee for my clients. I will need to supply all my own equipment but will have a set of shop keys so I am free to be there even outside the main salon opening hours which is good for promotions etc oh and it is in a busy town centre shopping area do you think this is a good opportunity?

At the moment the therapist in there is doing well with nails but the other side of beauty needs improvement via advertising she is only leaving due to moving to australia to live.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated x

Hi I started 5 months ago in a hairdressers. I have two rooms and they are very big like yours everything is included in my rent, even business rates etc! Since I opened I have never looked back, don't get me wrong it's bloody hard work but I know it will be worth it! I spent about £4500 setting up but mine is not just a room it's basically a small salon and needed furniture etc as well as products and equipment. I would definatly do it if you are confident with the service you will be providing, the costs involved and also the phscological side of it ie stress!!! Lol!! If you have the client base then i would do it like I say it's the best thing iv done, iv just taken on a girl as well and best of all your your own boss!!! Hope this helps!! X

It sounds like a great deal to me, and reasonably priced as there is a client base. Bite her hand off!! good luck x

Hi
I agree with the others. That seems really good to me. I used to rent a room for £150 per week, it wasn't very big and my telephone was on top aswell and there was no clients already, so I had to start from scratch.

I'd go for it but only one thing from my experience, make sure you like the people in the hairdressers and they seem like the type of people you could work with and that the salon works kind of like how you do... that was my down fall. I loved been my own boss but hated the hair salon where I ended up. Which is why I eventually decided to move on. Hth and Good Luck x

Thankyou for all your replies and well wishes, I am going to have a proper look at it on friday but so far its a definite yes x
