Whether you are a firm believer in making New Year’s Resolutions or find that setting goals as the year progresses is more your thing, then make 2014 the time to:

1. Get more customer referrals. Word of mouth is one of the most successful methods of
getting quality clients in your door. A recent study in the US shows that referred clients
are 18 percent more likely to stay with a business over time, than a walk-in client.

2. Offer Add-on services to your menu. If 80 percent of your clients come in for facials then
incorporate a chemical peel treatment or anti-aging eye treatment to your menu. If you
specialise in wax services then think about adding Vajazzling as a fun and profitable
service.

3. Consult with your client. Make 2014 the year you commit to consulting with every one of
your clients before their service. Even the loyal long-timers might have forgotten to tell you
about a stressful lifestyle change or new medication they are taking. The consultation also
gives you an opportunity to discuss their own goals for their skin making it easier for you to
sell the appropriate retail products.

4. Offer more pampering amenities. Offer your clients lemon, water or herbal tea before their
service. Massage their hands or feet for 10 minutes while you are waiting for a mask to
dry. Give them a small, individually wrapped piece of dark chocolate before they leave.
These small changes won’t cost you much, but can really improve your overall image in
the eyes of your clients. Most of them are looking for a relaxing and pampering experience
rather than just a good treatment.

5. Revamp your retail display. Now that you are consulting with everyone who comes in for
an appointment, it’s important that your retail display looks enticing. Place your best sellers
at eye level.
