Hello everyone I really hope you can give me some advice I am currently qualified to nvq 2 level beauty therapy and after having my son i really want to get into nail extentions and work for myself, however I have no idea how to find the RIGHT course I have researched the intrenet and get choices ranging from 1 day to a whole yr at varying costs too. I want to learn all the systems so i can provied a wide choice but which would you say is the most popular?
so i guess i'm asking could u recommend a good course which will give me a sound start and what type of nails u find sucessful.
I'm not looking for cheap and quick i really want to do this properly.
Thanks Em x:D Dorset

My best suggestion would be to find something hands-on that would provide you with all of the basic nail chemistry along with some basic sculpturing techniques. With those basics, once you graduate or even while you are in school--you could be taking advantage of all of the wonderful internet resources available as well as manufacturer workshops to learn more advanced technique from.

Hi there, well this is my personal advice .......... I am currently at college doing an evening course at college which is 17 weeks long and this is the fibreglass system. Before doing this I had to do another 17 week course for manicure/pedicure. Without doing this initial course, I could not do the Nail Tech course. I personally think doing a one night a week college course would be perfect for you with your current circumstances (just having a baby). I would like to stress though, how intense the courses are and there are a lot of assignments to be done.

When I finish this course I am then going to do a CND course in L&P.

Ithink that this is the way forward in ensuring that you get the right training. I really don't see how anyone can learn to be a nail tech in one day or even one week. It is definitely the most difficult course I have ever done.

I would suggest that you contact your local college and see what course they offer.

I also think that L&P is the most popular system from the feedback I have got from my college tutor. I have personally had the fibreglass (silk) tips myself for the last 9 years and this is very popular in my area.

I hope this helps.

thanks ladies for your advice I studied my beauty nvq2 back in 2003 and worked in a salon for a bit then stopped went in to office work but still did a bit on the side, I so wish i had gone on to nvq 3 and completed artificial nails but hey ho at least now i have the time (my son is 3 /2 and going off to preschool). I am well preped for all the assignments after doing nvq2 for a year so hope 17 wks will be cool.
i have all the a&p knowledge of nails just not the chemisty of artificials or the knowhow lol.
