Morning peeps

I've recently started in a new salon in a different area from where I have been based and it seems that there are loads of ladies coming in for bikini waxing who don't know what it is they are coming in for. This week alone I've had four females booked in for a bikini wax but then they turn up expecting a brazilian and I have to explain the difference and also the price difference.

Every bikini booking I ask the client when they make the booking is it just a bikini wax with a little off or is it a brazilian so I can correctly allocate time for the treatment. Has anyone got any suggestions how to be clearer to the client over the phone so I can book in the correct treatment? I don't want the client to feeling I'm being rude by talking through all the kinds of waxing but I also want to make sure I have plenty of time for the treatment.

Also when any of you are booking in Brazilians/Hollywoods do you ask the clients to trim their hair beforehand or do you just trim in the salon? I've had a few women in recently who needed pretty much ALL of their fuzz trimmed down before I could begin as they hadn't had their waxing done in a LONG time.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Hi. Sounds like the salon you are at is confusing the clients. I get lots of ladys who have been for a wax some where else and book in for a brazilian with me when they mean bikini so the opposite to you. Lots of ladys think they have had a brazilian when they have just had a G-string bikini because they have been told its a brazilian by the salon. If the clients have'nt done any reasearch they dont know the difference. Id ask the other staff at the salon your at how they have been doing bikini/brazilian waxes up till now. I have details of exactly what hair is removed on my price lists so if they are waxing virgins they know exactly what to ask for

I agree with Stormsky.

YOU should make it clear on your price lists and webstite what each wax includes.

They after all just names, so call them what you like but detail exactly what it includes. Yes, most ladies thing they've been having a Brazilian when in fact they've had what I call a G String or just a high leg bikini.

I always trim and never ask them to do so as they usually take it too short. It should only take 2 to 3 mins so I wouldn't worry about allowing extra time. xxx

Thank you both of you, I really appreciate it :)

There are only two of us here and the other girl does the waxing the same as I do but she runs a training school (she does the odd client but not often) so the salon is more or less new and the majority of clients have never been before - assuming the other salons they have been to must term bikinis differently.

I'll update my website with the descriptions so clients know what is what - thank you. Will update the new price list with descriptions too.

And thanks for the advice Kim, I'll stick to the trimming myself.

Have a look at my website and you'll see what I mean by detailing what they'll be getting. It's like a menu in a restaurant. Good luck doll. xx

Sometimes clients don't realise that you may need more time for a brazilian than for a bikini, so they just say bikini.
i might ask on the phone, "so was it a bikini or a brazilian you wanted?" and they will ask the difference or tell me which one they meant.

One woman always refers to a bikini as a mini, which confuses the girls no end because she also has mini manicures and they don't realise what she is booking for, lol x

How much do you trim? Do you use small clippers and if so is it like a number 2 or 3 length?

Too much importance is placed on trimming. It's really on the entire edge of the labia that needs trimming (unless it's like a rainforest of course). It's the density that causes pain and not really the length.

I own several pairs of clippers and never use them as I prefer scissors. I have more control and clients are less nervous. It really shouldn't take more than one to two mins.

TIP: I never say to me clients, 'I'm going to trim your hair', I just chat away to them and do it without a mention. Why? Because you might as well just say 'Wow, you really have let yourself go haven't you Hairy Mary' xxx
