hi wondering if you could all help im going to see a lady tomorrow about renting a room in her salon..does anyone know what kinda prices i should be paying and if i should be using my own stock etc im self employed mobile for 6 months and im just looking to do maybe 2 days there??

Well thats up to you how you want to work it , see what the owner says , maybe she wants it a persific way , and just have a think to what will suit you.
When i went to rent a room in a salon , i provided all my own stuff including table , beauty bed etc , and just payed her a weekly rent.
some people work on percentages , giving the owner so much percentage of what they make .
i would just go see her first , see what she says take the information home and think on it.

Good luck

it would depend on whether or not the room is furnished. A lot are not. Is it really worth your while to fit out a room to only use 2 days a week?

I would say yes it is worth it. I rent a room in a hair dressers and supplied all my own items and equipment to set it up. I also only work 2/3 days a week due to other commitments and find it works perfectly ok for me. If for any reason my current 2/3 days a week should come to an end then i have all my stock & equipment to set up some where else should that be another rented room or home based salon (which i might add i can do as i have the space but at this moment in time wish to work away from home)

bruc123 i would strongly advice doing some research in the area you are thinking of renting, enquire around and find out what the going price is for renting a room, also take into account location, room size, other salons around your area, if you will be able to promote your business by leaving flyers/price lists out etc and treatments you are able to carry out. Ask if you could rent on a daily fee based on the days you wish to do rather than a weekly/monthy fee.

Im sure come t-time more people will be around to give you some guidance and anything else i may have forgot!

Good luck & let us know how you go on.:p

I would agree with Pips. Do research in your local area.

If you do go ahead I would suggest you do have a contract in writing stating EXACTLY what you are paying for and what you get in return - room, use if facilities, telephone answering etc.

Years ago I rented a room on a percentage basis, it was fully fitted out and I had full use of all the products. I didn't get a written contract as the owner said we could just wait and see. Well every other week she had a reason to reduce my profit percentage so I started off paying her 30% and within 10 weeks this had changed to me paying her 60% as she felt the product usage was costing her money!!! After a number of fruitless heated disussions I ended up leaving and going elsewhere but learned my lesson the hard way

Best of luck
