Hi Hair geeks,
My friend has been using the same brand of black hair dye for almost 10 years and before christmas did her usual root touch up, went to bed and woke up the next day looking like the elephant lady, huge swollen eyes and redness all over her face, she has since tried numerous brands (patch testing) and all have had the same result, she is desperate as now her grey is coming through in 50 shades!!! Could anyone suggest a solution??? The hairdresser that cuts her hair is also stumped.....any ideas??
many thanks tinaxx

People usually have a reaction to the PPD in hair dye.
I know Daniel Field does a range of hair dyes without PPD.
Might be worth a go.

I'm sorry to hear about your friends allergic reaction. It must have been very distressing for her.

I suspect that the above product is unlikely to cover the grey hairs but she should still do a skin test if she tries it. Usually allergies to ppd and other chemicals in hair tints are for life.

Black contains the highest level of ppd compared to say, red or blonde tints and home colours also have higher levels of peroxide and other chemicals in them than professional tints. Yet more reason to stay clear of box colours.

Depending on her skin and natural hair colour, she could lighten her hair? She will need to get this done professionally though. Lifting dyed black hair to an even tone is a specialist job.

Thankyou all so much for your replys, I will pass the info on xx
