After reading a view posts and blogs i'm now concerned about a few things,I am in the middle of doing some courses most of them short courses as i cant go to college full time, ive done my waxing, tinting and am about to do manicure and pedicure course then my foundation with NSI,all fully accredited courses but after reading some of the comments on these short courses it seems a few of you think these courses are no good and dont offer any qualifications so i'm just wondering am i wasting my time and money? I really am passionate about beauty therapy and want to pursue my career and hope to work in a salon one day but after reading these things i am worried i am wasting my time and money that really i dont have!!! any advice please

I'll have to keep an eye on this thread as I'm still a bit unsure as to the choices for courses within the field! It can be a difficult choice, especially when money is tight :S

I would personally say save up the money for decent courses, My L&P course with CND was 12 full days and even at the end of that I was not sure I was ever going to get it lol
I did the calgel course after this and I think becasue I had knowledge of nails 2 days were fine.
For waxing did this at college, then did my intimate waxing in on a one day course, again I think because I had done waxing already adapted really quick.
1 day for spray tanning course, no problems at all but I have been a fake tan junkie for years lol hth xx

if your courses are accredited then you are fine to work as a therapist. You may come up against a few problems if you apply to work in salons, the salon owner may prefer to go with someone who has been the traditional NVQ college route.

Is there no part time courses at a local collage? i did L&P one night a week over 15weeks, and it was a fair price?

Thanks for the advice ladies, not really sure now what to do  I have paid what i would call decent amounts on the courses ive done so far and i did my research before booking them, espeacially my nail course,i thought NSI were quite a highly rated company? its over 4 mondays the course so dont know if this is long enough? I see what your saying about salons prefering college trained therapists and i knew all this before i started but college is not an option as i have no childcare and i theres no part time or evening courses anywhere round about me,i am starting work experience 2 days a week in a salon this week so was hoping this would help me in gaining more experience and hopefully help when i apply for jobs in the future...? xx

short courses are fine as long as they are accredited. Work experience will definatly help you. build up a portfolio of pictures of work you have done on friends and family which you can show to salons or potential clients. x

I was in the same boat as you. I listed pros and cons of all different nail courses and in the end I have went with CND and finertips for the training! Same with eyelash extension, and I am booked in with glam lash on thursday! Spoke to the girls at the beauty show yesterday and they are all really nice! And plus with both companies I know if I have any problems I can call them!
Im not planning on working in a salon so that side I dont mind. I am going to enjoy being mobile. And like you I have kids so this can work around that not problem!
