Would someone go from having a full time job and doing beauty on the side to build up a client base, to dropping to part time and concentrating more on beauty?

I'm getting a few bookings a week now mainly with eyelashes, but I just wondered at what point would you drop your hours at work?

I dont think it matters if you're a one man (or woman!!) band or ICI...I think you should sit down and write a business plan or strategy and a balance sheet which will dictate if and when you can get rid of the "day job".

Its so very personal though- some people are helped by a partner financially or have a few "strings to the bow" that make any decision that much easier.

It takes time to build up so unless you have financial support as mentioned previously I would wait until you are fully booked as it doesn't become any easier full time. Unless you have loads of people already contacting you asking for hours that you don't work at the moment.

I agree with Weezie. Also you need to look at your income.

I worked full time in my day job with beauty treatments mainly in the evenings & weekends. When I started getting fully booked I looked at the earnings there compared to the loss from my day job if I went part time. Once it balanced itself out (ish!) I went part time on the day job. I did the same when I gave up the part time day job.

Does this make sense as I'm not very good at putting myself across?!

You will loose xxx amount from cutting down hours on your day job so when you earn xxx amount from your beauty (or near enough) then you go for it.

I dunno, that's how I did it. I had the financial backing from my husband but I'm too independent & stubborn to take it. I like to pay my way. I did have to give up A LOT though, and I still don't pay myself much more than my bills come to. Thank god a Primark has just opened in Cambridge!
