Recently my nail teacher closed shop leaving me with no one to bounce things off. I tried looking for other local nail techs to talk with but no one wanted to liaise with the competition - so I went searching for other nail techs on the net & low and behold found this site. I actually stumbled across Salon Geek years ago and had no idea what the site was about & thought nothing of it. Now I'm on here all the time :) I work from home & it's rather isolated and lonely... now I have other nail techs to talk with who share my passion!!

Thing is: in the short amount of time I've been here I have learned so much about my 'worth'.

Previously I wondered how could I compete with cost effective/time efficient nail bars or other nail techs who can do French infills in 20mins?? Very few techs in my area offer nail art let alone 3D nail art & I always considered this to be one of my only advantages, along with friendly service & refreshments. I've since learned there is so much more to offer. There are French infills (as apposed to standard white nail tips), PopIts, stilettos, EDGE nails, glitter, nail jewels... not to mention knowledge of contra-indications and how to look after the clients hands and nails...

So Be Inspired!! There is a wealth of techniques, products and knowledge available for us to offer our clients!! :green:

Great post - nothing like a bit of positivity!!

Just a quick thought - did you get any client details from your teacher before she shut up shop - never miss an opportunity :)

Ha Ha! Never thought of that!

Excellent post, very motivating.

I had been looking at the local NSS wondering how to compete with prices etc once i am qualified and it was putting a bit of a dampener on my motivation. Then i came on here and realised that once trained i will be offering a better service etc and i "realised my worth" ... well what it hopefully will be lol. :)

One of the reasons I started this thread was to have others see that NSS or nail bars are not the end of the world (i.e. your business). And in fact we should be concentrating on what is going on with ourselves and our own salons & business. We should seek to educate ourselves, making improvements, learning and developing all the time. Which is what Salon Geek & the many professional people on here offer (a big thank you to all) :green: There are many professionals out there who are thriving in their business in spite of the NSS/nail bars down the road!!

I have something further to add: since being on this site I have changed my nail prep - I've made my prep more thorough as per information & tips I've learned from this wonderful site. I had my first client come back [with whom I did this new prep on] and after 3 weeks her nails had very minimal lift! I was sooooo happy :green:
