I'm looking for a beauty stool at the moment but don't want to spend loads on it. I want one with a back rest.

Does anyone have any suggestion on where to purchase one?

have a look on the wholesalers websites - ellisons, hof, salons direct, sallys, capital etc. xx

Salon services do good ones (black and white) sign up with them and you will get exclusive offers (vat free etc). Also have you tried gumtree? type in what your looking for, I got a beauty couch from there, really cheap!
