i don't use them now either for this reason but i find that in the bargain shops the packaging looks a bit cheaper so i wonder if they're poorer versions?

I completely agree! I use to use these for my mobile work and still do with the styling products as I do generally like them!! But it's such a shame as its cheapened the product and made it less creditable. X
