blending tips

When I apply the tips, i use acetone to 'melt' the join in order to blend it easily and quickly, however, once the join has started to soften (melt) i use a very soft file and smooth to one side, as I was trained to do however when i do this the sticky residue from the blended tip gets push onto the skin around the nail wall and the side of the figer, any tips how i can stop this from happening?
