Evening everyone,

I'm looking for a bit of advice re bridal makeup.

I'm currently training to be a hairdresser which obviously includes styling and updo's and I want to eventually specialise in bridal hair. I want to be able to offer makeup too but I'm not sure whether to do an 'all-round' makeup course or concentrate on a bridal course?

Some courses I've seen, you can be a beginner for the bridal make up too but I'm guessing an all-round course would teach you enough to do bridal anyway?

If anyone could give me some advice, I would be very grateful!

Ta! :)

As someone who did both bridal hair and makeup I would certainly recommend that you stick with just doing bridal hair.

Brides will expect you to do hair and makeup on 6 people without paying extra for an assistant, and don't get me started on the even earlier starts when you have to do both Makeup/hair.

if you offer both services they expect you to heavily discount both services and the amount of tools, kit bags you have to lug around and the time it take to pack/unpack it can seem to take forever

The best weddings I didi was when I was providing either hair or makeup

Thanks for the reply. Interesting to know. Will definitely bear this in mind before making a decision on further courses.

You said it not me!
Just from my own experience, the expectation of 'THE BIG DAY' is MASSIVE.
Nothing like it used to be, I used to quite enjoy it when a client announced she was getting married, and would I like to do the hair......
However, that was then, and this is now....unless I know the client, I refer to a 'Bridal stylist', who specialise in such 'events'.

Hmm, yeah must be alot of stress and pressure. Just thinking I'm more likely to get work in bridal than session work which I imagine to be alot of word of mouth etc....?

Aww i love doing bridal makeup. But i have been very very lucky with my clients so far.

I'm sure I'll get a bridezilla now I've said that haha.

Haha you've cursed yourself! I am going to do the makeup anyway to complement the hair training and give it a go. Everyone's different and I always like to give something a go myself. :)
