BABTAC's recent study has shown that beauty therapists are the second highest earners in the hair and beauty industry. Top earners were mobile hairdressers with mobile therapists found to earn £420 per month more on average than those employed in a salon.

The survey questioned 812 British people, all over the age of 18 and who had worked in the beauty industry for at least twelve months.

Speaking of the survey results, BABTAC marketing and membership manager Sarah Condon said, "The beauty industry was hit as hard as any other luxury market in recent times, so it is great to see the earning potential of those in the industry in cold, hard figures - the suggest that there is certainly money to be earned in the beauty field."

The survey discovered that hairdressers earned, on average, £1850 a month making them top earners, followed by beauty therapists and sports therapists.

Condon suggested that this was, "...another sign that this is a really viable, positive career choice for young women and men looking for inspiration and perhaps even deciding what they want to do once they finish school."

Results showed that those who were employed earned an average of £1,330 per month compared to full-time mobile professionals earned an average of £1,750.

Until then...geek on!

Do these statistics, 'employed versus mobile' take into account holiday pay?....
I would also be interested in the hours each sector are putting in, are they the same?
If they differ, it is not a fair comparison.

Slightly off topic but....
It seems nowday's that an employed position within a salon is rubbished at every turn.
IMO, it is a sad day when 'team work, loyalty, regular guaranteed wage, holiday pay, career progression' are no longer valued in this industry...
There is indeed room for both.

I think it's sad that many posts on here complain that the top salary or only salary in this industry is minimum wage. Are there any employers on here paying much above minimum without being in London?

These sort of figures can give a slightly warped view of the money to be made as a self employed therapist. I do wonder if the realistic side of the cost of running a business have been taken into account.

We'll have yet more posts from therapists struggling to make anything close to minimum wage under the impression that these figures are readily achievable!
