hello fellow geekers.
i'm sligthly confused, on the one and one website and looking into buying a domain, it's charging a monthly fee for hosting domain but how do I buy the domain or is this included in the hosting price?
Also if I pay them monthly for hosting and then want to move after a period of time can I bring the domain with me if I have bought it off them....?
i have also checked the nominet website and they've said i should buy the domain through a registrar, is one and one a registrar?
xx

Hiya
I purchased mine from 123-reg | Domain names | Domain name registration and it was something ridiculous like £5 and change for the year (or maybe 2, probably should revisit that lol). I am actually doing my site through Create a free website. Make a free blog.-Webnode and will change the DNS settings once I want it to go live. Ruth would def be the go-to geek for this, just letting you know what I've done. I'm pretty sure (don't quote me) that you can take your domain name anywhere where you have your page, it's just a matter of configuring the DNS. hth's best of luck :)

Hello
You can transfer a domain name to a different host. 1and1 have their DNServers as do all hosting companies, there is sometimes a transfer fee of approx £10 (one off) to change to another host.
It depends if youwant a domain name only or some webspace to host your website.
.co.uk domain names are registered for 2 years and the norm is a one off fee for this.
Really depends what you are looking for and usually better to find a comapny that can register your domain name and your site if required

Yep, 123-reg would get my vote for excellent value for money and also giving you options to do all the techie things like change DNS settings and nameservers.

Unless you wanted to use 123-reg's own hosting, you would need to update either the DNS settings or the nameservers to "point" to your choice of alternative web host...
