I am feeling so down today, I have severe excema and today it is playing up, got it all over my body everywhere u name it! I have had it all my life and just wanted to know if anyone has any advice?

I have used so many creams and ointments been to docs and hospitals but notihng seems to help! I jsut don't know wot to do anymore, it is really beginning to make me so down.

I hate it, thanks for reading! Just needed to get it off my chest!!!

Oh poor you, it must be awful - I have excema in my ears and that is bad enough.

If it is just dry and not open sores, then I have found that Solarbutter makes a big difference used regularly. Also Solaroil is good.

Do you know what triggers it - stress, products etc. etc.

Not sure what triggers it maybe stress? I have had it in my ears and then it leasds to an ear infection! How horrible! Well I have cut down on fizzy drinks but its still the same! NOt sure what to do anymore. Its so horrible, I have patchy red blotches on my skin and drives me insane. So miserable!

No hun its not dry its a thick white cream used most for babys bums lol but its great my family put it on everything lol x

I suppose at the end of the day it depends on what you want to achieve - I really dont like the baby bum creams - they are not very beautifying LOL.

My niece has had excema all her life - she is now 21 - she has a bad patch behind her shoulder and another one in her cleavage - can you imagine for a young girl - never wears sleeveless or low tops.

She spent last summer here and I gave her a pot of Solarbutter to try and she commented on the fact that her skin had never been so good - but the crazy thing was that when she went home she went back to using what the doctor or the chemist had subscribed - I ask you - I am just a lowly nail technician who cares for peoples hands, what do I know about skin LOL.

The excema in my ears flares up like yours into an ear infection, well it used to - it turns out that I was getting water in my ears when showering and then it was wet and itchy, I would scratch and the cycle goes on - I now always use ear plugs when washing my hair and touch wood, I have not had an ear infection in the last 4 years. If it starts to feel itchy, I rub in Solaroil.

Hi honey,

This may be a silly question but have you been referred by your doctor, to a dermatologist? I suffer from severe eczema and 2 years ago it was so bad the dermatologist I saw wanted to admit me to hospital. This was because my skin wasn't regulating my body temp properly and all I would do is shiver uncontrollably. It was affecting 70% of my body! I was put on 3 courses of steroids and thankfully it cleared it up within a few weeks. I haven't had anything near as bad since, the occasional flare up on my hands mostly, but thats it, and I'm a firm believer that stress is a MAJOR factor in how bad it is!
The problem I found with my GP was that they are a GENERAL Practitioner and not a specialist, you really need to see someone who specialises in skin disorders as thats what they deal with every day. You must demand to be reffered, I did as my doctor didn't think I was severe enough  Thank God I put my foot down.

If you want a chat at any time honey, just PM me, I know how it can get you down!! I hope you feel better soon.

My Homeopath recommends Calendula cream - it's made from Marigolds (the flower not the rubber gloves!!). You can get it in Boots - it's both antiseptic and healing, and it smells lovely.

I'm using it at the mo in conjunction with my steroid cream. I use the steroid cream at night and the Calendula at night. I really feel for you, eczema is miserable.....

Yea I have not got ear infection! Bloody excema! LOL. So on antibiotics for a week, but I feel I can't wear sleevelss tops coz ppl would see and I can't wear knee length skirts coz my legs are scarred. Its terrible. I do dread when the summer comes! I hate it! I scartch so much and got to dust the house every day! Coz if my scratching it goes everywhere etc

For really rich moisurisation for my dry (no eczema) skin, I have always used Bio Oil 'sealed' in with aqueous cream.

My aunty has eczema on her lower legs and forearms and I told her to try what I use. She loves it! Aqueous cream is what a dermatologist will usually recommend anyway.

Hope this helps honey

Perhaps there is something in the air because Natalie, my daughter also suffers really badly (ended up in hospital twice with it) and she cannot get it under control at the moment either. It's driving her mad. I've asked for advice on here too and got some great help ... http://www.thenailgeek.com/chit-chat/9698-help-my-daughters-eczema.html?highlight=eczema

She did have allergy testing and told she was multi sensitive, but certain things trigger it such as fizzy drinks, yeast, dairy products, too much chocolate and so on. She uses an emolient called double base which on the whole works really well for her, and I use diprobase which works well for me (I get it midly).

I got a really bad bout too not so long ago and I put on a really good aloe vera gel, it took the inflammation and itching away immediately. mine turned out to be because I changed washing powder to Persil and as soon as I stopped using it it went away.

Hope you get is sorted because I know how awful it is.

I have asked my doctor for an allergy test but they won't give me one they say there is on such thing but I know there is! Thanks for your reply! Do appreciate them, I know I am not the only one suffering but it feels like it!

Homeopaths can do allergy testing too - non-invasive, no needles etc...... I had my migraine trigger diagnosed that way after the Dr just offered me more painkillers....

Might be worth looking into?

If there was no such thing then the dermatology departments in hospitals would have no patients. Doctors really make some stupid remarks some times. You are entitled under the patients charter to be referred for specialist treatment if you feel your GP is not managing to control your symptoms. They will do skin prick tests to try to find out what the culprits are. It might also be an idea to keep a food diary and watch to see if there is any pattern relating to what you eat when you have flare up, as quite often this is food related, especially dairy products. You can react up to about 5 days after eating a food that you are allergic to. Your favourite food is also a number one contender as people get addicted to food they are allergic to as it actually gives them a high even if they are not fully aware of it. When my youngest son was a baby he developed numerous food allergies and his favourite food was the first thing they took him off.

hi chick
so sorry you are bad!!my son has severe eczema all over his body face to feet and has loads of perscription cream diprobase, oilatum, hydrocortozone fucibet etc etc the list is endless. however over the years I have found that his is also sun triggered and he has hayfever!!!The best thing i have found and it sounds mad is the following. get a stocking or pair of tights and fill it with porridge oats then put it under the tap when you run the bath. The water goes cloudy lay in it for 30mins and then squeeze the tight and a slimy liquid comes out. rub this on the affected area, and rinse as usual. do not use soap. it clears up brilliantly. my doctor said it is to do with yeast!!!as this is a natural thing it wont do you no harm unless you are allergic to oats!!!lol
hope it helps:green:

Washing powders can aggravate it badly Persil is one of the worst I believe

Bold is better apparantly. I have swapped to Daz recently and my skin has flared up very badly so it's back to Bold for me.

Use the Betnovate to get it under control then use Dermol 500 and Dermol Shower emolliant, (put some essential oils in it to perfume it if you like) your doctor can prescribe these. Aveeno is another good one, but Dermol tends to work for me very well.

Betnotave and Eumovate are good but they contain Cortisone which (over time) can thin the skin. My daughter suffered from this really badly and I took her to a chinese herbalist who gave her some cream and gave me some herbs etc that have to be boiled and then you bathe in them. They don't smell great but the difference in her skin has been amazing. My GP gave her Phenergan which does stop the itching but causes severe drowsiness. He also gave her aqueous cream for the dryness of the skin.
