Can u use nail polish to make a coloured gel

I have read previously either on this site or another about how someone used a few drops of nail polish to make up a coloured gel for clients, but did not know of the response. So has anyone experimented with this and what was the outcome???? If you have experimented with this could you help with what steps you did to achieve a good coverage result.
