Just logged on to Facebook to see an ad on the local selling page:

Gel polish only £6 a set

Some of the pics look a tad dodgy but some look ok

What's the cheapest down your way?

£10 here, gets me down/angry, as so many think these people are offering a professional service, and would rather go there due to price [emoji17]

It's not necessarily the cheapest set that bothers me its the nss salons who charge a similar price for rock hard sets x

It just makes it look as if we're charging more because we want more profit - some people don't realise there's any difference in quality of product or skill level - so annoying

I'd love to know what products she's using

There's a little town near where I live and as we were shopping the other day I said to my husband look at that lovely salon - decorated really nice high end fittings, somewhere I would definitely go for treatments but there were no clients in there
We carried on walking and 2/3 doors down was a cheap salon with neon lights flashing and tacky posters in the window and it was absolutely rammed, all the nail tables were full, the reception chairs were all full and people were even standing up too queue
It was so packed out that the windows were steamed up lol
The nails were advertised cheaply but I cannot remember the prices

Just shows that people will queue up and wait just to save a few pounds and don't care what type of salon they're having them done in

I know where I would rather go X

The usual suspects Elite99, bluesky - it is being offered as Shellac....

It does make it seem as we are being greedy, I've been told by 3 different people this week enquiring about Acrylic nails that £23 for a full set is too expensive

I've now posted that on my Facebook page, just a subtle hint to not message me just to say it's too expensive and can they have a discount [emoji4]

It is ridiculous I'm always seeing cheap nails offered which in turn makes sensible priced nails seem expensive, a lot of people just don't care about the actual care of their nails it's very frustrating [emoji53]

It's all related to who your market is. Near me are shellac fingers and toes for £10. She's not newly qualified but has been going for a while. I would guess she's pretty naive to think that will generate any long term clients. I charge £25 for shellac or gel 2 and we're busy (although nails aren't our only treatment).

I don't want clients that think fat acrylics that never come off are great. I want clients with disposable income who come and have their nails done and pay me my worth. They sit in a beautiful salon, they are treated to (mainly) intelligent conversation and a tea or coffee. We do have a slightly different approach as we don't offer extensions at all. We specialise in the natural nail, so we tend to get some who have had the fat acrylics on and suffered - and not all the horrendous nails I've seen have been NSS - many have been from salons locally that simply do crap nails.

A cheap set of nails is just that. Build a rep on great treatments - whatever they are - and keep attracting the right clients.

As I always say there is Aldi and there is Waitrose. Both sell meat, both sell veg and so on but I know where I prefer to shop x

I totally agree and I'm grateful for a loyal client base who obviously like what I do [emoji5]️

But it does still wind me up to see techs advertising this cheaply.

The £6 are not extensions, it's just gel polish and the photos don't look bad

I know I couldn't keep going charging that.
It doesn't make sense! Maybe it's people just doing a few on the side rather than a business but if it doesn't stack up, I don't get why they do it at all?

Round my way the cheapest I've seen is £5 for shellac £7 for shellac fingers AND toes and £8 for nail extensions this is mobile and includes nail art x

They say they use CND shellac but whether or not they do is another thing . Their advert says something along the lines of 'fully qualified experienced professional nail technician' I saw their adverts on gumtree and Facebook so I don't know I haven't seen pictures of their certificates or anything just what they've said x

£10 cheapest I seen here so far. People look at me in astonishment when they find out what I charge. I am not a £10 dolly. I have tried to explain the cost what comes with each treatment but people don't really care whether you have insurance and other cost to cover.

I'm one of the most expensive in my town. I regularly see ads for £8-10 nails. I haven't really advertised yet, the majority of my clients come through word of mouth. At every opportunity, but especially new clients, I explain the ins and outs of good training and the importance of insurance and qualifications. Then it's up to them if they choose the cheap option. I've just gained a client that is a hairdresser in an award winning salon. Questioning the price, which surprised me tbh. Whilst chatting, she told me that a large amount of their work is colour corrections from DIY jobs or other salons. I told her that I also did a lot of correction work from the NSS salons. I think the penny dropped.

Im in the northwest and gel and shellac is cheap , most salons do cnd shellac for 15 but always on offer for fingers and toes for 20. I have been doing nails for nearly 10 years and been mobile for the last 3. I charge 10 for bluesky and 15 for CND shellac and extra for stamping and nail art. There are some spas around that charge £20+ but that's for the spa treatment. I have attached a picture of my most recent set. Cheaper doesn't always mean crap

If your a trained professional why would you use a rip off cheap product like blue sky shellac which anyone can buy on eBay?
The clues in the title...?

I have completed Bluseky UK training course accredited with my insurance the beauty guild and they have MSDS. Bluesky is a gel polish not shellac, CND have trademarked shellac. My clients love it. In my eyes it's the person that's the professional.

My friends/clients love my products too as I have spent lots on professional training and products however I wouldn't choose a product that my clients can buy themselves.

I charge £20 for plain shellac in my area which is average some salons charge double this ....then you get others charging as little as £10 there is one girl in my area on Facebook charging £5 ....there's no point in me even turning my lamp on for a fiver it's ridiculous ....but o won't lower my prices I know my worth and know my profit margins....it's educating the client that nice nails aren't cheap and cheap nails aren't nice!

I can get genuine CND shellac near me for £10 for fingers. And she's really good too. AND she's mobile. It's why I don't do nails, I'm not going to even try and compete with that.
