Hi Geeks,

I have been looking at photo's of coloured acrylic like these: http://www.christiesnails.com/pictures/glitter22.jpg

I think they are gorgeous and I love the idea of using a different colour acrylic for the tip rather than usuing the standard pink and white. I just have a few questions that i'm hoping you may be able to help me with.

The main thing that I have problems with when performing pink and whites is "butting" the pink up to the white. It tends to get dragged over the white turning it a pinkish colour. Any advise would be great. So if I was to try using coloured acrylic would I encase the colour with clear acrylic or still with pink??

Also is coloured acrylic used just for this type of effect or can it be used all over the nail. If it could be used all over - are infills effected? Do you get a colour difference??

Last bit I promise What tip would be the best for this? I currently used creative velocity natural tips. Would natural tips be ok or would I get a better result from clear?? If I was to use clear do these get blended the same way?? Sorry for all the questions. Any advise would be great.

Look forward to hearing from you all soon x

I use a lot of coloured l&p as well as doing p&w, I always use clear over my colour so I don't file the colour off when refining.

There are no limits with colours, you can just use it on the tips or over the whole nail too if you were doing a fade etc. If you were using colour on the whole nail then you would build the structure of the nail with clear.

Clear tips are definitely better as they show your colour better, you just blend these in the normal way.

hth :)

These are done using a coloured powder with glitter added to it, if you are going to be using glitter you will need a separate brush, so you don't get glitter where you don't want it.

The colour does not need to be encased, just apply and finish as you would your white, you can use pink or clear for the nail bed,
if you drag your acrylic over the tip when applying the nail bed colour just use your brush the opposite way and sweep it back up the nail to the apex.

Also is coloured acrylic used just for this type of effect or can it be used all over the nail. If it could be used all over - are infills effected? Do you get a colour difference?? It can be used all over the nail to create any effect you want but you have to be careful because the dreaded greenies can hide under there and we cant see it, it is not affected by rebalances or infills

You can use either, a clear tip is best when using glitter as you get a better effect and can see the design from under the nail too,
yes when using a clear tip you still need to blend the tip
