Can someone tell me what the different grits in nail files are for??

I looked at a previous post and got confused as to what 180 grit is for.... is it prep or shaping??? and what is an 80 grit used for as alot of people have said that they would never use it as its too coarse!!

Also what shape files do people prefer using because iv seen loads and don't really know whats best!!

Thanks

What nail training have you had? Only this would have been covered in most training courses.....

240 is used for prepping the natural nail, 180 for tip blending and shaping enhancements. You progress up the grits to work scratches out of your finished enhancements ending with a buffer that is around 3000.....

I do not even own an 80 grit file and wouldn't use one for anything other than sanding my door frame! Way to coarse for nails.....

I havent had any training yet!! am looking into training and at the courses that different people do!! Im just trying to get a better understanding at the moment!! Thanks for your help!! x

I have heard of people using an 80 grit to reduce thickness for rebalancing but I think even for this use is a bit harsh as you could easily get carried away and end up at natural nail faster that you were expecting.

using a too harsh file can also create lifting problems....it rattles the product around too much and you can end up with the product lifting away.

Thank you very much!!

The information has been very helpful!!

Can someone tell me.....iv seen that the OPI files are a different shape.....whats better about this shape than the normal file shape???

Personal preference hun.:) i prefer the "boomerang" style ones.

I use the normal ones for 'de-bulking' when doing a rebalance but use bomerang files for tip blending, its completely up to you xx
