Confused by trademarks

Why is trademark nessecary if your a home salon? Will you expand in the future?
 
It was just suggested as I was worried about the fact it's the name of a big salon in New York I've found.

It's only suggested if you don't want anyone to take it from you.
 
Whether you're a home salon or a high street one, if you don't check whether your name is trademarked, or if it isn't trademarked and someone uses and trademarks it, they can claim the name and start proceedings against you forcing you to stop using the name and remove it from all your advertising, printing etc.

It happened in the not too distant past when several home salons using the word 'beautique' in their name received solicitors letters from the owner of the trademark.

I've been advised to rethink as it may seem like I am passing off as a franchise so back to drawing board it is!
