Where do we stand with disabled access? I am purchasing a salon which is upstairs, on first floor. I can't see how I can make it more disabled accessible other than putting in a stair lift but I know many people who operate in a similar situation. I thought, legally, we had to make all businesses accessible?

Many thanks in advance

We have a step. Had the council round once but nothing further. Just leave it the way it is :)

If the premises isn't already designed for disabled use i believe it doesn't need to be modified for the purpose of a hair salon. Different to a new build construction. There was a thread about disabled toilets recently, as a hair salon you are not selling refreshments so do not have to offer clients a toilet, only staff. I have a high street hair salon and do not have disabled access or a disabled toilet. The majority don't.

The DDA states simply that you must make 'reasonable' adjustments. Installing a chair lift would be deemed as beyond reasonable. So don't worry!

I am interested in replies to this also. I know we all want to be available to all prospective clients but salon location/access makes a huge difference. x

My salon is upstairs too, I relocated here a few years back and it states on my price lists that home visits may be a available for weddings and customer who can't access the salon . I have done home visits whenever I can and it is always appreciated .
