Hi hoping someone can help me out on this one.

I have a client, been doing her hair for a few months.Usually i do bleach hi lights and 6/7 lo lights, 1 to 1.

She went on holiday abroad recently and so only wanted the brown put through. I decided to put some of the bleach through the parting just so it didn't look too dark, she was happy with that.

next time I do it, she said it was a bit too dark and she wants to go lighter, not a prob. I did bleach with pastel toner and then 6% through top. All good looked fine, she was happy. Later that night I got a text saying she'd had a look in another light and thought it was too blonde, so can I put some dark through it. Again, not a problem. I put the lo lights in the next evening. No charge.

She's now text me again, a week on saying the top looks too light still when can I put some more dark in. I think all she needs is a few foils through the parting, prob no more than 5. But I don't know whether to charge or not. I feel it's my fault as it was too blonde in the first place, but she wanted it lighter anyway. Then when I went back it's still not right. My husband however thinks I should charge, even if it's a minimal amount.

But I'm really unsure, what do you guys think?

I think generally people on here say if they are happy when you leave...then texting later on is a bit unfair. If she was happy as you left then I think especially as you have been back once before, just explain that as she asked for it lighter, you will need to charge her your travel and product costs to cover yourself. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't mind that. :) xxx

Hmm yeah that would work. When it was too blonde she text me an hour later, it was dark and she looked in a different room with better lighting so I really didn't mind that. But I guess I feel a bit the same, a week on and then saying something. Which is why I was a bit unsure I think. Unless it's faded a lot over the blonde? Thanks, I'll prob go with that tbh. :)

Oh god I had to look at ur location then becuse I had this realy wierd lady a couple weeks back! similar thing but she had also dyed her hair at home inbetween I wont go into it now but realy realy strange situation I hope she never rings agian lol!! Yeh I think she is being so cheeky becuse she keeps on ringing you. Definatly charge her EVERY time. It also sounds like she is being kind of to familiar with you becuse she keeps on txting all the time. Maby like distance yourself a little bit. It is not like she is critisizing the technique or anything has gone wrong. She just keeps changing her mind. Well sorry but its too late, she left happy so what can you do but re charge her.Hope this helps xxxxxxx

I'm not a hairdresser but it sounds like she doesn't really know what she wants. I would say to her that you want her to be happy so could she show you a picture of the exact look she is going for, then make sure to do a full consultation all over again, get her to agree on the colour and look. Then next time she rings up for a change, if you have done exactly what she asked at the consultation, you can say that you will make a note on her card for next time about what she wants done differently otherwise she has the option to pay £XX for the alteration.

Sound advice. I am not a hair stylist either but I agree with weezie. This client seems to be chopping and changing quite a bit. Fair enough, we have probably all left a salon at one point saying that we loved the hair, but thinking, 'mmmmm its a tad too long still', then wear it for 24 hours and decide a little more needs to come off. The stylist will probably do it for free, but then I do think it is unfair to return for free again a week later.

Suggest that you will note it on her card, but if she wants it fixed 'now' it will cost £xx.

As a client - I'd expect to pay....

Thanks for all your help. I had been doing the same colours for a while and she was really happy with it, so I know exactly what she wants. It's just when we put the dark in it that it started to go wrong. It's not her changing her mind as such, more that she wants it how it was before.

Anyway, I've offered her a couple of appointments and not heard anything back so we'll see.
