Do I need to top coat acrylic before polishing?

Hello everyone!
I am new to nails and have just finished a short course on uv gel and acrylic nails but I am left confused as to whether I need to top coat the acrylic nails before applying a gel polish? I haven't been and am experiencing peeling away from the nail? any advice is greatly welcome also wondered if it could be because of polish application but im doing very thin layers and capping the free edge?

No you don't top coat before applying your gel polish.
The colour can peel if the acrylic is too smooth so make sure you aren't buffing it. I finish mine with a 180 grit then 2 coats of colour and top coat.

Aaaahhhh!!!! ok that could be the problem as i am buffing the nail i shall try your method thank you so much
