Hello.
Iv never employed anyone before, I have s small salon, 2 girls rent chairs.
Iv just recently had a baby and can’t be at work as regularly so I want a stylist 2 days per week.
Does anyone know about employment?
Some questions I have are
If it’s under 16 hours do I need to:
Pay holiday
Pay maternity
Pay sickness
Amount of holiday they’re allowed
Allocate a set lunch break
If it’s over 16 hours does any of the above change?
Is there extra charges on insurance policies etc. Im just trying to work out if it’s worth employing someone.
Any help/advice would be great x

You can look up the basic information you need via the gov.uk website.

However, if you’d prefer an off the shelf solution, it might be worth joining the hairdressers federation. They provide lots of simple straightforward guides inc. employment contracts and staff handbooks, advice regarding current employment laws and discounts on insurance cover etc.

Employing staff isn’t an easy option and employed staff always need managing, some a lot more than others!
Generally, unless you’re paying well above minimum wage, you might struggle to find well qualified experienced staff looking for part-time salon hours.

Thank you - I am wondering if it’s worth it.
