How Do you feel you have been treated by other members when you ask a question? This is for Non professionals as well as professionals.
Are your answers nice, quick, positive? Are you fulfilled with the answers you receive?
I Want everyone to put in there two cents because I have seen some not so nice and some very helpful very nice responses.

Thank you.
Don't be shy ;)

Are you meaning to be ironic?

I've always been treated FAB and everyone has been very helpful. This is a great site and I've learned tons since joining. :)

I've found this a brilliant helpful forum for those of us who are working as a pro but maybe don't have and colleagues to ask questions or advice and I am really grateful that some of the more experienced hairpro's take their time to kindly give advice. It is not somewhere to beg free advice if you want to do a botch job at home!!:lick:

as the site is generally for professionals a bodge it home job or a argos special stands out like a sore thumb.

also there is a SEARCH option on here so for newbies it is a good thing to check that the question hasn't been asked many many times before, for example, What skincare range should I use.

I've been on here for about 3 years and I use the search option.

I also am extremely grateful for geeks coming to my rescue whenever I have a dilemma. It amazes me sometimes how much time people spend answering questions and giving their experience. We are all on an eternal apprenticeship here so when someone comes on thinking that they know all the answers, I for one give that person a wide berth. I've been a therapist for 17 years and I'm just at the beginning of my learning experience.

No offense, but I personally feel that this thread is a way of starting trouble.

There will always be peeps that don't get along with others for whatever, and arguments over this or that in ANY type of community.

Having said that, the answer is right before you and I think this thread is redundant.
The fact that the NUMBER of members is soooo high speaks for itself.
If this wasn't the warm welcoming community that it is, then this site wouldn't be as successfull as it is.

I'm not a moderator or admin on this site, but frankly, I think this thread should be closed.
This is a 'negative' thread.
It's just another way of starting arguments and arguments and is NOT what TRUE geeks are about.

EDITED TO ADD:
I see from your profile that you're new here. I also see that your posts are minimal and you're clearly basing this thread on one experience.
You clearly aren't familiar with the personalities on these forums, nor their 'style' of communicating.
The written word is often misleading when facial expressions and hand gestures and tone of voice are missing..........

Here's a bit of advice..... take it or leave it.
Sit back and READ.... don't assume you understand someone's meaning.
Learn.
And for future reference, threads such as this are considered 'trolling'. No one likes trolls.

With out this site and the other Geeks here I don't think I would have made it !
This site is a wealth of knowledge and some of the best people are here are willing to share it for free, where else can you get that?

Some times people cant handle the answer to a question ,
The thing is with questions .... You can ask as many as you like .....but you got to be ready to take the answers that come!

I've read the other posts concerned , and I've read through this .... If you are ready to listen to answers ...... Read this and the ones above mine take it on bored ..............

If your not ready then wait till one person in 30 agrees with you and then take that as being gospel !

It is also worth noting Hun that this IS a web site ....if you don't like it ....know one is making you be here !

couldnt of said it better myself!

I think everyone on here is fantastic, bar the odd newbies who are rude, cocky and jealous and type in pink like 5 year-olds.

love your signature Amber it makes me chuckle :D

I have moved this to chit chat as that is where the non professional discussions should take place.

You say in your signature "I call it how I see it"... here's what I see...

I see someone who's made 9 posts, who joined the site yesterday and who is jumping to conclusions regarding one thread (out of three) that they've participated in... the other two threads were started by themselves, one of which hasn't received any replies yet. I see someone who has accused the moderators of deleting one of their threads (not true) and labelled them 'power tripped' (again, not true).

This thread was posted to incite trouble... why?

Being a member of the award winning Salon Geek (the world's largest salon professional website community) isn't a right, it's a privilege.
If you don't like it here then don't participate... simples!

I agree with the others and feel that you are out to cause trouble and obviously love a good old argument.

I don't have the time or energy for this kind of attitude .... this site has been a Godsend for me and the geeks on here have been nothing but friendly and supportive to me..... you get back what you give!!!!

The moderators don't get paid for the great job they do on here and they do a brilliant job to keep this site professional.

If you aren't happy, you don't have to stay you know ;)

For camaraderie, advice, comiseration and sheer laugh out loud fun, this site is populated by generous, kind, and clever people. You get out of it what you put in.

I have learnt loads on this site, and plan on learning much more.

Love it on Salon geek :D

Thank you all for your feedback.
First off I started this thread because I was asked to by a higher ranked member so that I could get a better feel for the community around here. Not because I was picking an argument.
I am not basing my experience off one thread. I read many threads and my opinion is this.
There is great info on here nice people and some rude. My ONLY issue was those who were not professionals asking what i feel to be a totally legit and great question for knowledge in pursuing the area of beauty they desire and being treated poorly in return. When I started in beauty I had no support No help and No one thought I could or would do it. I have made great things happen and I have a great client list who loves me for many reasons. I did this by hands on experimenting before I could afford to go to school.
Not all newbie questions should be answered for a DIY and need to go to a professional nor did I ever claim they should be. There are however certain times when a question could be answered without the attitude I saw.

Whats funny is I made this thread to see how every ones attitude would be concerning the forum not about me. I like how some try to bash me for writing in pink its funny really thank you it doesn't bother me to the least.
This thread was not for drama at all it was simply to see how members felt about this forum so I could get a better understanding of attitude from members. Some have proven my point by the ignorant things said my post was made for some understanding and some have proven me verrrrrry wrong by saying what a great place this is and how much they love it.
I felt that for a couple people on here they needed a little less put down and and little more encouragement.
I have searched through this thread for answers to questions many times before registering and found useful info so my title may be new but I've been lurking around for things as a guest.
I call it how I see it.
Some of your are awesome, and some have the exact poor attitude towards others as I thought.
So thank you everyone I from the bottom of my heart appreciate all of your feedback. On to bigger things now.
One last thing. I apologized for the comment I made to the admins so either go back and read that thread again or understand that I am big enough to admit when I have made a mistake. I also say I'm sorry because I'm not a pride freak (no pun intended).
Thank you all again and have a WONDERFUL DAY! :D

OK so here is my take on this situation!

Imagine the scenario - one is looking for a flat share and finds a flat with a vacant room - all of the other tenants have been sharing together for quite some time so know each other really well. New person comes into flat share and decides to create things to their own liking, to hell with the others. I want it my way!

Will this result in a happy flat - I think maybe not.

Pink text may be to your liking but it can be difficult to read if you might have tired eyes, or even be a glasses wearer. But then if the post is for you and not for others to read then that is fine.

The site has been going for quite a long time and lots of members have been here for a long time, and some not so long. We mostly all gel along together really well, we get the odd misfit but that is life!

The Salongeek was created as an education and community tool for those people who are qualified professionals or people who are genuinely in training. It is not for people who want to learn to do treatments on friends and family and who have absolutely no intention of getting proper training.

One problem we have is that different rules apply in different countries. In the US for example, you need to go to beauty school. In the UK you dont, anyone can walk into a wholesalers and buy professional products and wreak havoc on the general public.

We do not like it when people come on wanting help with DIY jobs as it disrespects all the training that has gone into making us professionals.

I hope this comes across in the manner which it is written - not rudeness, no b*tching or troublemaking but hopefully a bit of insight into returning harmony.

Sinful Girl, if you want to stay around and I hope you do as you probably have some good information to impart in way of help to others. However if all you want to do is pick fights with those who are passionate about their industry (being that it is different to yours - US vs UK legislation) then maybe you might like to choose a different forum.

You make a great point to the pink font but it was not put that way to me when the 5 year old insult was made, so i thank you for your feedback on that. I have no problem picking a different color. I love color so I sill still use something but darker so it is easier to read. I am not an unreasonable person and yes realizing things are different from US to UK, I do struggle with the way things are run differently but I am working on understanding this. I was never here to pick a fight and like i said before ive lurked around her for a while getting good info and I also have good info to share. That is why I registered. My issue simply was this site is so highly praised by members but i saw something that bothered me and I said something. Some took it out of context maybe from my own chosen words so I apologize. I do hope to stick around and share more as well learn. I will also keep in mind the difference in UK to US. I never came here to change the way things are done here just pointing out something i saw i felt was wrong.
Now with your flat example.
With suki specifically she did take a course therefore she has had SOME not all but SOME training right... So she cant be qualified as someone to get an answer for being a trainee and learning like you say this forum is for? That is my point she is pushing to do beauty and hair so she is a trainee to me shes still learning I'm still learning new stuff everyday so why was she allowed to be put down? I swear I don't even know who she is I live in California but I felt is was wrong for the attitude and put down. I plan on sticking around and ill be nicer in my words as long as I get the same in return.

Sad Pink is Pimp but ill choose something darker!

not being rude or bitchy but am not prepared to strain my eyes trying to read text which is too small or fancy regardless of which colour it is.

I am all for being different but if you want people to actually answer your points then maybe you might show a little respect for them and choose a font size and colour that is easy to read.

YesI agree with Martigirl, it was hard to read it, too small font, please change it.
