Saying he's abusive isn't being narrow minded, the sex in the books isnt especially shocking (and it's horribly wtitten). Saying he's abusive is facing facts. I have no problem with some kink between consenting adults but this book is not about that. That is a sideline to sell copies of twilight fan fic. There's so much wrong with these books that goes beyond a bit of half-arsed bdsm.

I guess everyone has their limits (pun definitely intended), and what some may see as abusive others may not! Person A may be approached by a Christian Grey and go "HELL NO YOU MENTALIST" and Person B might go "HOLY HELL THIS SOUNDS EXCITING AND RIGHT UP MY STREET"
I just wish that some people could understand that it's not black and white, BDSM is not evil.

Oh just watched the trailer ... Don't want to wish my summer away waiting for valentines day haha!

I haven't read the books.....but I gather an author wrote a few books, with a wild imagination and is now laughing all the way to the bank..good for her.

I'm not sure if I'll see the movie though, I'm still trying to work out what the words with all the asterisks are in this thread.

Woah there Nelly, I never said BDSM was evil! I said that 50 shades isnt a true representation of a BDSM relationship.
In BDSM the sub is always in charge and has ultimate control.
What is scary about this book is that his sexual preferences were developed thanks to abuse (which annoys the BDSM community) and so he us replicating abuse.

I know you didn't, but that's what a lot of people I've spoken to feel. 'It disgusting and wrong' etc.
And I completely agree that the fact that he was abused and it leads to his controlling tendencies is a little worrying to the BDSM community, as there are obviously well adjusted normal people like you and me who get their kicks out of a good flogging; but it is also possible that suffering the kind of abuse that his character did could indeed lead to someone leading a life like that too. And so the book is written from that perspective. It's up to the audience to have the intelligence to acknowledge that BDSM is not a 'condition' caused by some childhood trauma.

It's called entertainment , I have read the books several times. I much prefer simple reads over the classics anyday, I think those books suck! As to the movie , Feb is too far away!!! The guy playing Christian sucks. But I am looking forward to the movie, just to see what they did with it😝

It's not a biography, it's fiction! Why have people , not talking about you 😉, lost their ability to think rationally .

It's just a book!!! I don't care if Christian grey is abusive because he clearly doesn't exist.

Read the books, glad I only paid a fiver for the 3 off Amazon, thought Anastasia was lightly tapped in tne head going along with it all. Not in the slightest the "Mummy Porn " the media portrayed it to be, more Enid Blyton meets American Pie. .outcome? Gave the books away.

If a man slapped me like that he wouldn't know what hit him lol

Seen the trailer, more disappointing than the books, non of the characters were anything like who I built up in my head. Yes everyone's vision is different. I won't be wishing my summer away either.

Not my cuppa Tea. A far distant cry from exotic, sorry but I found it quite boring.

I found it really tame- especially compared to some of the stuff in my "private collection" :)

I loved the books. I am very excited about the movie! Personally I always find the books better to any movie. But still I have to watch the movie! A bit disappointed in the eye candy, as my mr grey was way sexier! But it's opinion :)

Shame it's still so far away!!!

Yeah he doesn't match my mr grey but they could never have won everyone over. Still wish he was closer to mine!

I never finished the first book because I was so distracted by the poor writing style of the author. Reading this thread though has intrigued me as it's evoking interesting opinions, even though it is fiction. It's not enough for me to try and read it again as I've already made up my mind that I don't rate the author, but maybe it's enough for me to see a fit bloke in a film. :wink2:

Not to be a downer but my mind turned to mush reading that book that I still can't understand what the plot was.

For one thing, it's a book, it's fictitious and not always going to be spot on with the stereotypical dominant, it explores other branches.
And second it's not for others to tell you to 'run for the hills' in this circumstance. If a person enters a relationship, fully aware of it's nature, and consenting, it really is their choice.

In some ways I don't think she was fully aware of its nature. Anna lived in a little fantasy bubble. I bet if christian was ugly and poor this whole story would be about a girl and her homeless fetish frenzied stalker.

Oooh I LOVE everything about Fifty Shades....hence my username!!!

Those who watch my YouTube videos will see that it started life with a "casting" video of who should play Mr Grey!!

Michael Fassbender is my all time favourite hot actor!! Those who follow my IG will see I used to post 2 to 3 pics a day of him as Mr Grey!

Has someone also mentioned "Shame" on this thread? I bought the DVD, watched the first 5 minutes and got to see Mr Fassbender in all his "glory" about 3 times! Lol!

I actually can't bring myself to watch the rest of it as my cheeks flush when I do, haha!!! And I'm not a prude in anyway!!

Can't wait for the 50 shades film!!
