Do you need permission to do this? And if so how do you go about getting it?

Who do you approach?

Is it a good way to get new clients?

I've just done this at the weekend, I didnt think about getting any permission I just did it lol.

I will let you know if I get a telling off

thanks, i did think about just doing it...... i have e-mailed the shopping centres to see if i need permission. Hopefully i'll get a reply, if not i shall certainly be following in your footsteps!

My husband doesn't think i should do it, he thinks it's a waste of flyers........... does anyone else think he's right?

One of the main problems with it is the litter it causes when they blow away or people drop them if they are not interested (littering is an offense). I doubt anything will happen if you do leaflet it but if someone thought a scratch on their car was caused by you putting the leaflet there you may be in trouble for criminal damage (make sure you don't wear anything that could scratch the cars). Also yes you will need permission on private property like a shopping car park.

Sorry but regardless of whether is is legal or not I hate having advertising forced on me by someone leafleting my car.

i agree sorry, i wouldnt dream of doing this not only because of the possible legal complications, (your always going to get one awkward person) but mainly because i hate it. personally i think it looks like begging and possibly verging on the desperate. sorry, i dont want to cause a riot or anything, just my opinion. and i am not saying people shouldnt do it, i just dont lke receiving them on my car and walking past others with them on looks awful.

if it gets business, then great, but i dont think many people if any actually take note of whats on them, no matter how good the offer on them is.

I don't see how it can be portrayed as begging! It's no different to posting a flyer through someones letterbox.

Personally i disagree i think it's a potentially great way to market to a wide range of people, from different areas, instead of door drops where you can only target 1 area at a time!

if you speak to your local council they should have a booklet stating what advertising is allowed ect. i had a proiblem with a different business where we put a banner on the bridge as other business had. it was secure so there was no danger ect. they told us to remove it and apply for planning permission - no joke! we had 21 days to remove it or we would be procecuted. it was then that we were sent this booklet and i learnt LOADS of info. did you know that the balloons that people advertise above there place usually in a cool shape have to be a certain height in the air!! its worth the read as it gives the do's and dont's.

thank you glitz and glam.

That was precisely the type of constructive advice i was looking for.

I will look into it.

I agree with you hun, I like to think out of the box when it comes to marketing my business, its the first time I have leafleted a car park, I made sure I was extra careful as didn't want to cause damage, and I did think about the potential litter that might of been caused by my leaflets and if I get into trouble by my actions I will know for next time.

I am no beggar, I am just wanting my investment in my business to reach its full potential and to keep my diary full and attract new custom, I might try wearing the sandwich board next:idea:

Well good luck I hope you come up with some ideas that work for you. I don't personally think it's anything like begging, I just hate paper flyers flapping all over the streets as they are so bad for the environment.

I agree with your hubby I'm afraid... If anyone ever leaves a flyer on my car, the first thing it does is annoy me because usually I'm already inside and belted up before I realise it's there and I have to get out again to remove it... then, before i'm even back in the car it's screwed into a ball and chucked in the passenger footwell ready for the bin when I get home - chances are I won't even know what it's advertising.

Unlike puting your flyers through letterboxes, I don't think you've got much chance of people taking the flyers into their home where they can read it later.

I've thought about it but haven't done it, because like your husband said it could be a waste of time and money.

I get irritated when a leaflet is on my car and tend to throw it away without much of a glance and i don't know anybody that does.

If it works for you, i'd love to hear about it.

Have you leafletted houses?

as i said in my pervios post im didnt want to cause a riot, and im sorry if i have upset anyone, that wasnt my intention, i think i might have sounded a little harsh sorry.
i agree that people want to invest time and advertising as much as possible to generate business and those that do this will hopefully reep the rewards, i just dont believe that car leafleting is the way to do this. it is obviously a split opinion on this subject, and i honestly hope that whatever you do, works and you get more customers.
i shall leve it there and wish you all the best whichever advertising road you decide xxxxx

well if your a fast runner who gives a dam if its legal or not...if your a little slow on your feet....roller skates will get you away fast enough :lol::lol:

you do need permission if it is in a shopping centre as private and if the council find your leaflets all over the place when chucked on the floor you can be done for fly tipping so be careful. I have worked in promotions for many years and you always need permission:)

This is exactly how I feel about it too, but perhaps there are some folk that don't mind it? Only one way to find out & that is do it in a small area (once you have checked out the legalities of it) & see what feedback you get. Do keep us posted!
