I have a work experience girl about to complete 2 weeks trial.

Alas the skills from doing a 3 year college course are not what I thought, from shampooing through to cutting, although the blow drying is very good and client skills excellent, along side applying root tint.

With this, I am going to offer her some work experience as much or as little as she chooses a week in advance on a "tipping" system.

(I have been paying her a daily cash wage but it is too much I think now)

To ensure she gets lots of training and encouragement:

She receives a tip (commission) of 10% of each service she provides ie: Blow Dry / Root Tint / Setting.

What do you think? She has been unable to gain a job in the area, there are about 30+ salons, and I want to give her an opportunity but not have her not getting anything nor me something for nothing.

Good, fair idea? Oh and my clients are tipping her well.

Ps: She walks to the salon and has lunch at home so absolutely no costs incurred to her.

You are breaking the law by paying cash in hand. She is either employed, or not. Seek specialist employment law advice to work out the best way of giving this lady her "break" without it landing you in court for breaking min wage and employment law.
