I have a client that I did and refills on ( Acrylic ) and now she saying she has something on her nail which is black tho she is coming for me to see, How could it be the nails when Im real strick with how i do it ? Yet she still wants them done again this week ? How could it have been the refills wouldnt all of them have it ? Could someone help me please This person has abit of a crazy side to her but im lost with this and no one else every say's anything bad.

First of all it is very unlikely it is a fungus but more likely to be a bacteria infection - if it is black then it has gone from yellow to green to black so it has not just come.

Just remove the nail overlay, prep it really well and reapply - the stain will grown out.

There may have been a tiny crack in the overlay which you hadnt noticed and then rebalanced over it. It could have even been a tiny hair trapped underneath.

Dont beat yourself up, these things happen, it is how you deal with it, professionally that is what matters now. Dont fall to pieces and offer to do her nails free for ever more.

There is an article on here called moldy old fun guys which will be a good read.

Two other possibilities as she is just describing something 'black'

1) could be an airbubble on the surface that created a small 'pit' that will then fill up with dirt etc and appear to be small black dot

2) if it's under the nail it could be a splinter hemmorage (ie. blood) this is caused by trauma, ie banging the nail,

Generally, you can't comment until you site the condition and then have something like Doug Schoons nail anatomy & product chemistry book (edition 2 has colour pics) this will definitely help you to diagnose and solve the situation.

As strict as you may be, clients can crack or damage a nail and if you haven't spotted it and repaired it during the rebalance appointmnt, then moisture will be leaking in under the enhancement.
A warm, moist, dark environment is what bacteria thrive on.

Follow Fiona's instructions and replace the enhancement with a new overlay. In future you need eyes like a hawk during the maintenance service to spot any potential problems and stop them from happening.

If it is not a bacterial infection but a splinter hemmorage then it will appear near the free edge and look like a tiny black line or series of lines (like a splinter). this is caused by trauma to the nail of some sort that results in a small bleed. The blood seeps and settles in the folds of the dermis in the nail bed (hence the lines).

How could it have been the refills wouldnt all of them have it ?

If the other nails are 'tight' then they would not show the same problem.
