Gaps between polish and skin

How much of a gap between skin and:

Gel polish/ overlays

Normal nail polish

I was told hairline for normal polish but more for gels. Just want to check I'm doing it right sometimes I think I'm leaving too much of a gap!

I would say there's no specific measurement. You need to get as close to the cuticle as you possibly can without flooding. The more practise, the closer you will get.

Okay thank you- I worry about touching the skin but I guess with practice I'll get closer
