Hey everyone, I am starting up business at home and in the process of doing a price list! Is gel nail removal something you would put on a price list or not!

Thanks any advice appreciated xxx

yep...I charge £15 for a removal and mini mani

anything that you do as a service should be listed and priced.

Thanks for the advice! What technique do you find best for removal of gel nails? I am using the method where you soak the cotton pads in acetone and then place on the artificial nail and wrap in foil?

Is this a safe enough way of doing it!?

I charge the same as bagpuss for a removal and rehydrating mini manicure...

It is safe to remove the nails as you said,i am assuming you use a soft gel.

For speedier removal i love to use heated mitts, then after 10 or 15 mins, take off foil, and your gel should just peel away in one, with a little help from a cuticle implement, just do not force it,if it is still atached just wait a little longer.

yeah thats what i would to too... but i use a non soak off gel :) i think in 5 years i have removed a set of nails about 2 -3 times.

I use a non-soak off gel as well, and have found it quite hard to remove with acetone only. At least I find it takes ages.

What I´ve done to solve this is that I usually file the gel very thin, and then use the pads soaked in slightly heated product remover and wrap the fingers in foil. This speeds it up a bit as hard gels don´t soak off too quickly. The heat of the warm remover and the fingers helps the process of product dissolving a bit quicker.:)

why are you soaking off a non soak off gel....? they are designed to be filed off.

I use the edge nails gel non soak off gel so should i not use the foil and acetone technique then for this?

Yes, I was taught to remove non soak off gels by filing, which I did before.
But after converting to Brisa gels, the instructions for removal were as I described earlier: Thin the product to a minimum, use warm product remove soaked in cotton pads and wrap around the fingers with foil. After 20-40 minutes remove the pads and remove the softened product from the nail plate with an orange wood stick or similar. After this comes washing hands and nails and moisturizing them with SolarOil and a nice moisturizing lotion. :)

No you need to manually buff of,to a very thin layer,i would de bulk with a 180 grit, and then use a 240 to finish,to a thin sliver, you can let this grow out...no amount of acetone will penetrate as it is non porous.

My cousin had gel nails done with the non soak off gel and she soaked in acetone for 30 mins and they came off fine!

After the treatment i plan on including a hand mask with paraffin wax treatment with thermal mittens! will this help or do you think acetone and non soak off gel is a no no!

we were trained to do the foil technique with the non soak off gel so i dont know what to do?

I do remember something like that from my Brisa training...to be honest by the time you have filed down to a bare minimum you may as well file the rest off....much quicker than 20-40 mins soaking.

Also i leave a thin layer on the nail to safely grow out.

no it definitely was the non soak off gel as i used to work in salon services and it was there that we made the kits up with the non soak off gel!

I havent used my gel yet so maybe the way to go is to exchange my products and get the soak off, so at least i can use the technique that i know then :) thanks for advice all!

Ya owe me a box of tips lol :)

Well that´s true! :green:
It´s just that if I get clients who want a removal, they want it all gone... so leaving a thin layer of gel has been a bit of a problem with some. :irked: That´s why I´m now doing the way I was taught with Brisa and using the cotton pads with product remover. (As I would feel uncomfortable filing off all of the gel, so much I want my clients to believe it, when I say that enhancements don´t hurt ones natural nails. Then if I go ruin it all the last time I may see them, and accidentally file off too much (even when using a very fine abrasive)... there goes it all..)

Oh well, but yeah that was just me and some clients I´ve encountered.
In general, soak off gels are to be soaked off, and non soak off ones to be filed off. I suppose, however, that there are ways to bend the rule that they teach us depending on the gel system we use. :)
